(Ah ha, it seems like I am gonna be the first one!)

1. reading is my best friend

To be honest, I like reading alone. Since I was in high school, one of my hobbies was to read what I bought from our school bookstore. Currently I am reading the fictional novel The three bodies problem, which is written by Cixin Liu. Also, last week I read a part of the search of multi universes, written by John Gribin, because one of my favorite games mentioned the sentences in it. Besides, I am enthusiastic about things related to multi universes or time travel, so the type of book I read most is science fiction.

Kindle is the tool I usually use to read them, like how it shows the texts, it feels like just a thinner book for me.

2.about writing

I personally is not a person who is good at expressing emotions, so I rarely write

Anything in my leisure time. I remember the formal article I wrote last time was due to the assignment of the uwp 022 course…

To write an essay, google doc or word document are the best choices for me. Google doc can automatically save your current document so you won’t meet with the tragedy that your word document suddenly crashes. Also, it provides some notification when there’s serious grammar mistake appears in my passage.

Whatever, writing is a cool technique and there’s lots of tricks and strategies I need to learn. I am looking forward to studying them with you guys in this summer session!

Feelings on reading and writing

1.Honestly, I don't have any negative feelings toward reading at all. However, admittedly, I read significantly less than what I did when I was in middle school or beginning of high school. Typically I read fiction books (I was a Percy Jackson kid) but occasionally picked up a good nonfiction or biography. Sadly my relationship with reading dwindled a bit after the start of high school, partially due to the reading assignments that started pouring in soon after. I think that the reading assignments made me start viewing reading as more of a chore rather than as a potential hobby and my relationship with reading is still suffering as of today. Fortunately, I was able to mend it a bit thanks to a politics and power class I took during my senior year. I found a love for reading all types of articles whether it be US politics, international affairs, scientific studies, and one of my personal favorites, crime.

2.Unlike reading, my relationship with writing is a bit more precarious. I find it takes a lot of effort for me to write something that I am happy with. There is definitely a disconnect between what my brain wants me to say versus what I actually get down on paper. Other than writing for classes or taking notes I don’t really write independently, although I have tried(and failed) multiple times to journal over quarantine. Typically for writing I tend to stick to starting off with a rough outline, and then branching off from there. Again because writing doesn’t exactly come naturally, it tends to take quite a while, and I find myself getting stuck fairly often which is pretty frustrating. However when I write I try my best to make it as personal to me as possible, such as including a bit of my own humor in it, as it’s one of the things I look forward to when reading through my own work.

1. I love reading. Unfortunately, I have not read as many books as I would have liked to this year. But growing up I would love to read because it felt like an escape from reality. I prefer to read Historical fiction or romance novels. My two favorite books are the Book Thief by Marcus Zusak and Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Currently I am reading The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. I prefer to read physical copies of books and tend to stray from audio or pdf versions of books.
2. At this moment in time I am feeling a disconnect with my writing skills. It started at the beginning of my second semester in 12th grade in 2020. I'm not sure what changed but I feel that I have not been writing to the best of my ability lately. I mostly only write for my classes, I don't write in my free time. I am used to structural writing because when I took AP Lang in 11th grade that's how we were taught in order to pass the exam.

1.If I need to define my relationship with reading right now, I'm probably more inclined to be positive. In most courses, I always need to read textbooks to prepare my courses or read some materials to accomplish my assignment. Thus, reading is always an indispensable component of studying courses, whatever kinds of courses, that makes me used to reading materials without negative feelings. Most of the materials I always read are from course materials, textbooks, and some online published paragraphs on the website to finish assignments or prepare presentations. Still, sometimes I also read news like world news, hot news, exciting news, or novels like mystery novels，science fiction, etc., on the website. When I read those materials, I always use the computer and browser.

2.Comparing the relationship with reading, I have a less positive relationship with wiring. Writing always consists of several sentences, but I am not good at establishing each sentence clearly, accurately, or perfectly. Sometimes, my sentences do not express my thinking, which may cause some unclear expressions in paragraphs. Besides, if I want to describe a lot of information in one sentence, I may make the sentences hard to understand and wordy. Thus, those problems of my writing cause a little bit more negative relationship with my writing. Although sometimes I try to revise them, it is hard to improve significantly. Most of the time, I always write some short paragraphs to accomplish homework and write a few papers as the midterm or final reflective in some courses. Like most students, my common tools of writing are google doc and WPS.

1. About reading
Reading is part of my daily life. I love it, I enjoy reading. Novels are a huge part of reading. For now I am reading about Greek mythology, it is very interesting. Stories like Easun's win the golden fleece, 12 trials of Hercules, and the battle between Perseus and Medusa. The Greek gods' stories are great too. I use an app on my phone to read, since that will be convenient, I can read them at any time I want to.

2. About writing.

We are not close at all! We are unfamiliar! It is a disaster when I am writing, spelling wrong spelled, wrong grammar, wrong vocabulary. But, actually I love to write even though I am not good at it. I like to share stories with others by writing or chatting. The story I was told and I saw, or I was through it. I would love to write them down and share them with others. To write an essay, my first choice will be Word, since I am living in China now. But google doc is more helpful , it has more functions than Word, it is easy to save and it is easy to share.

I know my writing skill is so bad, but, no matter what, I want to learn how to write a good essay, good story. I want to improve my writing skill. I hope this summer I can become better!

1.I like reading very much. I enjoy the quiet of reading and the knowledge that the book can bring me. But to be honest, I don't read much. Because when I realized the fun of reading, I was already a sophomore in senior high school. Before my sophomore year in senior high school, I spent more time on outdoor activities. The books I read now are mostly reference books: such as studying people's character, how to allocate daily time, etc. Compared with reading new e-books, I prefer to read traditional paper books. When I read an e-book, I can't read it because of the screen. And some paper books will have the smell of ink. I like the smell very much.

2.Compared with reading, although my attitude towards writing is not so positive, I still have a more frustrated and brave attitude. Because of my poor writing ability, I often feel distressed because I can't accurately express my views and use words correctly. These questions have been with me. It may be due to many negative comments that my enthusiasm for writing is not as high as reading. However, whenever I receive the correct guidance, I will be very happy to correct my problems and take the time to polish the article. I have been trying my best to standardize (or modify) my writing habits in order to become a good writer. I usually write some argumentative papers to discuss something or a point of view. Writing tools I like to use computers instead of traditional pens and paper. Because of long typing, I can type much faster than I can write.

1. About reading, I can absolutely say that I love reading very much, but in my mother language. Since in that cause, I don't have language burden influencing my comprehension of the book. In the high school literature class, we were required to read English fiction. That book is called" The hunger games". It is a interesting and exciting type of fiction. Different people in the story were in trouble. The conflict between Protagonist and antagonist was pulling my heart to up and down. From that on, I have interested in reading in English. I have read a lot book when I was a child. From when I can comprehend what the author express to us, I read many kinds of books. That's the initiation of reading. Now, I also love reading. On one hand, I have to read enough books to enhance my reading ability. On the other hand, accompanied with my increase of vocabulary, it is not too hard for me to read books in English. Especially some books with attractive plots can make me feel more into the book.
2. Writing is not that good. I am the person who is not good at expression. I practice a lot of writing in my standardized exam in high school. Learning lots of writing rules and followed them to finish my writing assignment. So all of these are compulsory in that time. And I don't like writing too much. However in university, writing is quite important so I am determined to learn well in writing. Since university provide us with multiple platform and resources to learn writing. I believe I can build a positive relationship with writing in my four year study!

1. To be honest, I like reading a lot. However, as I graduate from high school, I do not read as many books as before because they are large amounts of assignment in college. The reading hobby derives from when I was young, my mother often taught me a story before I slept, so I liked to read story book in my early age. When I grow up, I am interested in the travelling magazine. From the travelling magazine, I learn different cultures of the world and the geography of each country. In order to be convenient to read the magazine, I have download a reading APP in my iPad and therefore it is easier for me to read it anywhere.

2. I have to admit that I have less positive relationship with writing compare to reading. In my opinion, writing is a disaster. It is unavoidable for me to have wrong grammar mistakes and vocabulary, even some unnecessary words. In addition, it is time-consuming that before writing an article, I have to organize the structure in order to get in the wrong track. Therefore, there are some prerequisites before writing a good essay. I like to write some short paragraphs to record
some happy things. I think google docs and WPS is suitable for to write an essay.

1) I have always enjoyed a good book or series; however, reading was a crutch for me in middle school especially. My go-to genre was Greek mythology and once I read every pamphlet, article, and book having anything to do with Greek demigods and creatures, I moved onto Roman mythology. Currently, the time I spend reading is focused on scanning through Subaru forums and engine diagrams in order to fix my car. Although I have strayed away from reading novels, I enjoy learning about mechanics and the specifics of different car and truck makes and models. I typically access this information via online articles and forums.

2) Formulas and numbers are my forte. However, the career path I am pursuing requires advanced writing skills. My confidence to articulate varies from prompt to prompt yet remains low. I prefer to write research or historical papers where I can formulate a thesis based on evidence and facts. When it comes to creative writing or composing a thesis based on themes from a book, my ability to articulate disappears. I tend to encounter writing blocks whenever trying to accomplish simple tasks assigned in class. Overthinking and second guessing what I write restrains me the most. I typically write essays for class, small discussion posts, and occasionally will type a few notes into my phone as reminders for later. Word document and Google Docs are my go-to platforms for keeping track of my writing. Although my handwriting resembles a child’s, I enjoy putting pen to paper.

Reading is already a part of my life. I have to say it is the best way to get knowledge. When you want to explore uncharted territory, books may help you filter out unnecessary information. When I was in high school, I was addicted to psychology, but it’s hard for a layman to get into an area that is full of professional knowledge. I tried to search for information online, checking some websites, and asking my friend, but those methods are not able to help me know PSC with all the aspects. Finally, I discovered reading books. There is credible evidence to suggest that reading can help people calm down.

My dad gave me a Kindle when I was in middle school, and downloading new books on my kindle became my favorite thing after school. I am still reading on that kindle until now.

On the contrary, I don’t like writing at all. It is hard for me to organize my thoughts and language on paper and that makes my writing grade pretty bad during the high school years. Those extra factors make me have negative emotions. Now I'm trying to re-understand writing and challenge myself. I realized that writing is one of the important parts of my college. I can’t graduate from college without writing anything. By the way, I liked writing stories when I was in primary school. I didn’t have a phone at that time, so writing stories made me feel rich.

Relationship with reading: reading is my life necessity. I love reading news, the first thing I wake up in the morning is reading today’s news. When I am free, I would read all types of books, like fictions, classic literature, psychology book, and economy book. Reading good books makes me feel joyful and fulfilled. However, I feel uncomfortable when asked to read stuff I am not interested at, like math textbook, or obscure analysis paper. I read digital news through internet and only read books in paper. I think reading paper book makes me more relaxed than reading digital books. It is more feel like reading a actual book rather than scanning the digital screen for information. I’d like to think and write notes when I am reading, so I would have a structured idea of the book and main argument of the book.

Relationship with writing ：writing is also an important part of life. Since the global pandemic, I only write in digital devices, my writing is usually persuasive writing and analysis writing. I do most of my writings for my classwork and homework. i am struggling when writing the outlines for my papers; however, when I am finished, I feel much accomplished. I hated when I am writing stuff I am not interested at or I am not fully acknowledged, sometimes I would just be writing some nonsense stuff. Outside of course, I would edit texts to persuade my friends to do something (if that is considered writing).

Generally, reading is input for me, and writing is an output. Therefore, I don't separate reading and writing usually.
I read social sciences most, such as some psychology, anthropology books. I'm currently reading a book on anthropology called Country Driving. It was written by a white American in China and told the story of what he saw and felt while driving in China in the early 2000s. It has a lot of fun! Seeing things from other people's perspectives and thinking makes me feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of giants. Novels are also my favorite. I like novels because the writers of novels usually side with the weaker side of society. Reading novels not only gives me a temporary escape from reality but also causes me to reflect when I return to reality.
sometimes, I hate writing, honestly, not because the writing itself is bad, but because my writing skills are bad. My spontaneous writing usually happens when I have a desire to express myself.
Sometimes it's late at night when I can't sleep. Sometimes it's when a movie I'm watching reminds me of something that inspires me. Usually, at that point, I would like to flip open a notebook or a memo on my phone and start writing. Unfortunately, I am not a person who can hold on to the thoughts of the moment. Sometimes the thoughts will slip away, no matter how to think about it. I can only wait for the next ideas to come.
But I actually feel a sense of accomplishment when I finish a piece of writing. I guess I just hate myself for not being good at it. Probably, in the future, I need to improve my presentation skills and learn how to get myself back at the moment

1. I really like reading and writing since i was little, however, i can’t put much time into reading now because I’m busy at most of time. Especially when I went to high school, i had less time to read books i like because i needed to prepare lots of exams. I prefer historical fiction and story about murder mystery. I think they help me think in a more logical way and give me inspiration of overall thinking. I really like the process that i try to figure out an answer by searching the clues. For me, i like reading in paper instead of online. It protects my eyes and I’ll be more focused on the content. I like holding my favorite book and read them quietly.
2. Now, i still like writing, especially when i analyze materials with my own thoughts. However, i think college writing is challenging for me because we need to master lots of skills, know many kinds of construction and using formal language. For a non-native speaker like me, it’s a hard process to learn, but i still have high expectations for myself in this class. I hope it helps me solve all my confusions in writing.

1. Reading is not a part of my daily life. I honestly do not enjoy reading much but I have slowly started to understand how important it is. In order to write better I really do need to start reading. I normally enjoy reading comic books as I love seeing a lot of colour and pictures. I dont really use many tools to read.
2. Writing is also not part of my daily life. As I did my highschool in Inida , writing was never given much importance. I have understood how important it is after joining UC Davis. I only write when I have an assignment to complete. I dont use many tools, just research on the topic and note down points.
