everyday products contain toxic chemicals

EPA says that all landfills eventually leak

landfills give off potentially harmful gases

odors will often seeps the neighborhoods; decreased property value, lower quality of living, higher traffic

Some studies show that birth defects increase in communities surrounding landfills

Municipal waste, medical waste, special waste, or hazardous waste landfills are four common types

types of waste accepted at any particular site are not regulated or monitored strictly enough by state agencies

many sites are used as base for athletic fields, playground, parking lots or other facilities after their active period is over

uses
such as this can lead to cracks in the cover, and subsequent
leakage;waste industry companies are responsible for the liability for
such problems for often no more than 30 years

Waste incineration is almost impossible to regulate

releases
toxic chemicals, such as lead and mercury, from the smoke stacks, and
even produces additional byproducts in the stacks at certain
temperatures (dioxins and furans)

incinerators produce toxic ash
which has to be disposed of in a landfill;Incineration does not
eliminate waste; it redistributes toxic chemicals into the air and
produces another form of waste (ash) to be land filled

areas where the waste collects before it goes into the stacks starts to
decompose and releases toxic chemicals into the air affecting worker
health and nearby neighborhoods

Water can become contaminated with toxic or radioactive materials from industry, mine sites and abandoned hazardous waste sites

Fresh water pollution cause acid rain with smoke

make water in homes undrinkable and that could make you dye by not having water supply

An underground tank may take years to rust; After it begins to leak, it
may take several more years before adequate amounts of chemicals appear
in the aquifer(and it will likely be years beyond that before any health
effects show up in the local population) By then, the trail may be
decades old. So it's quite possible that any cancers occurring today as a
result of leaking USTs might originate from tanks that were installed
half a century ago. At that time, there were gas tanks sufficient to
fuel 53 million cars in the world; today there are enough to fuel almost
10 times that number.

The disposal of hazardous chemicals leak pollutants into groundwater. Water
in aquifers move through the Earth extremely slow, its pollutants
continue to grow. Aquifers become sinks or storage containers for
pollutants, decade after decade, further lowering the amount of clean
water they can produce for human use. We're poisoning our fresh water
supply, and in return, instead of investing in the future generations,
we are strangling their chances for a healthy, sustainable life.
