Monkey See, Monkey Do, Monkey Connect

In this story, there are many bonds connecting the relationships of the monkeys together. For example in lines 149-155 it reads, "When I see synchrony and mimicry--- whether it concerns yawning, laughing, dancing, or aping--- I see social connection and bonding. I see an old herd instinct that has been taken up a notch. It goes beyond the tendency of a mass of individuals galloping in the same direction, crossing the river at the same time. The new level requires that one pay better attention to what others do and absorb how they do it." To me, this is providing information on when animals and humans do something other observe and end up doing the same thing. When one laughs, the other does too. They share connections with each other and have special bonds.

A video representation of how laughing has special bonds.

When people laugh it triggers others to laugh with them. Sometimes you can be laughing at something that you find funny, while everyone else is laughing only at you, simply because you are just laughing. This video explains how you can laugh in many different ways. Most of the time we laugh when we share bonds with our friends, family or those who we are close to. This reasoning is because we have special connections and bonds with them, so therefore when they laugh it triggers us to laugh as well.

When I am with my friends, I have a special bond with them. It's different being with friends, then if I was with other people. When around my friends, I can act in whatever way, and they won't judge me. We can be totally serious, or crazy at times. My friends are those who I can be around and not feel awkward or shy. It's like they are my family and we share bonds with each other and can relate to how we are feeling.

The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket

In this story, a boy named Fujio is out with all the other kids. They are all looking for grasshoppers and bell crickets. Fujio ends up finding a "grasshopper" and he waits until the girl named Kiyoko comes over to give it to her. He starts out by calling out, "does anyone want a grasshopper?" (Kawabata, 53). All the kids came running over but Fujio didn't give it to them, he was waiting until Kiyoko came over. When she finally came, she held out her hands and he drops a bell cricket into them. Right then, they shared a special bond between each other. On Kiyoko's chest appeared a greenish light and the boy's name was written there. And on the boy's waist appeared her name, Kiyoko.

The Prisoner Who Wore Glasses

In this story, a man named Brille is held at the prison. Hannetjie is not very nice to Brille and so they argue a lot. Their bond with each other is not very strong. One of the reasons is for his race, Brille is colored while Hannetjie is not. In lines 56-58 it says, "I don't take orders from a kaffir. I don't know what kind of kaffir you think you are. Why don't you say Baas. I'm you Baas, why don't you say Baas, hey?" Hannetjie is talking to Brille in a rude way, and they soon find out they share a bond. The bond that they share is retrospect and how they always worry about their families back at home. Throughout the story, Brille tries to be the nice guy, while Hannetjie soon starts to become more his friend than a jerk. This reason is that they share the same feelings about their families and they can connect to each other about what they are thinking.

Autumn's Pet Dog

My dog's name is Marley, and let me tell you he is something else. People can have a bond with their pet(s) or other animals in many different ways. Even ways that you can't have with other people. I am one of those people who has a bond with my dog. Every time I come home he never leaves my side. It's like we are connected in some way that he feels he needs to be right next to me. Whenever my mom or dad comes home he just goes over and says hi, but when around me, he is always right there by my side. We got my dog a few months ago and my mom always says, "don't pick the dog, let the dog pick you." Literally, that is our saying for every animal. And sure enough, Marley came straight to me and never left my side. That's when we knew he was the one. Whenever I don't feel the greatest he will always come and lay by me, and when I'm hyper so is he. Our bond is strong, and will always be.

Whenever I am with my friends I feel like I can tell them anything. Nothing can come between my friends and me, even if we are not with each other. Our friendship for one another is strong and nothing can come of that. We have strong bonds and they continue to get stronger as we get older.

Family
A family is just like icing on a cake, sometimes sweet and sour but never overbaked.

In this poem, I used the words cake and bake to show my emotion towards my family. Every family has their ups and downs, which is referring to the sweet and sour, but mine is never hard on me. They are never over baked. We have our special moments together and our hard times, but overall we still love and look out for each other.

Basketball is my sport.
To hear the crowd from on the court.
Dribble, pass, assist, and shoot.
Down the court and through the hoop.

This poem relates to our essential question because I have a bond with basketball. Just how many people have bonds with other sports mine is with basketball. It helps me cope with my emotions and relieves my stress. During the summer when it is actually warm outside, I will always go out and shoot. My bond with basketball is strong, and I enjoy playing very much. I never doubt shots I take, and I always think positive. Basketball allows me to learn from my mistakes and I am addicted to playing.
