“Because no employer pays his staff to do as they please. At least when I sell my body, I decide which part of me goes into where and whom!”
- Jeetu, pg 33

Jeetu has a Rebellious attitude

He values Freedom (of expression and action), Independence and Pleasure

This quote demonstrates Jeetu’s unwillingness to let others control him, and his strong conviction to live his life on his own terms despite their impoverished situation. He is refusing to join in as an “employee” of InterPlanta by living in an apartment fully regulated by them, and is asserting to Jaya that he will not give up his ability to do anything he wants in order to continue staying with the family. His use of informal, colloquial language only heightens the shock value of his statement - he speaks with intense passion and zeal about working as a prostitute for money.

Additionally, the use of the word “when” illustrates his own certainty of continuing in prostitution work, and highlights irony in his statement - despite his so-called freedom to choose how and who he works with, he is still resigned to continue working as a prostitute because of his circumstances. This displays how poverty-stricken individuals like Jeetu struggle to cling onto their independence under a system that forces them into jobs that take away their autonomy.
