Opened D2L and Navigated to the week 4 workshop to begin documentation.
Went to the LOC Website and created an account to keep up with my work
Reviewed the "How To Transcribe" and "How To Review Transcription" pages to get a better idea on how to approach the readings.
Navigated to the LOC Campaigns page to select one for my project
Selected the "Sheet Music of the Musical Theater" as my campaign to focus on.
Reviewed the "Needs to Review" section of the campaign
I viewed lots of interesting work from this time and it seems like it will be a fun time!

I was surprised about the amount of content provided on the LOC Campaigns webpage and the amount of campaigns to choose from. There were a lot of different works to choose from, so I am excited to be able to review and transcribe these different musical lyrics, being in Band myself and playing many different instruments, I feel that I will have an easier time reading and understanding these works. My concerns for this project are that some works date back to the early 1800's, and contain early English and other dialects and phrases that might be hard to understand, some works are also hand-written instead of printed.

Navigated to the LOC Website and accessed my selected campaign
Clicked on the "Not Started" tab of the campaign and began to look at my options
Chose a category of sheet music from 1920-1922
Within that category, I chose a piece of sheet music titled "Potpourri"
Began transcribing page one, finished 8 pages.

This week, I learned about myself and how I can handle doing this type of work for long periods of time, transcribing is not easy, and sometimes words or phrases get hard to read (especially when it is handwritten and from a long time ago), but I am satisfied with the amount of work I was able to complete. This week I learned a lot about the DSLP, I went back to review my notes and look at the "How to Transcribe" tab on the LOC website to make sure I was performing and doing the best work that I could. Thinking about literature overall, I am getting an interesting perspective on the subject considering i am not directly transcribing written works or stories, but rather lyrics and music written in other languages. Given my musical background, it is cool getting to see a different perspective within these works, I personally haven't really looked at orchestral music or piano pieces before, so reading "Potpourri" was a good experience.

This week was or last week of reviewing the Library of Congress campaigns and transcribing work. This week I took a similar approach to the transcriptions as I did last week. I reviewed some English work, which was actually a little different that the German work I reviewed last week. I reviewed two different pieces from the last 1910's, both pieces were similar in their composition. Comparing my experience this week to my experience last week, i find it interesting that even though many people around the world speak thousands of languages, but music is the universal language, and when it comes to literature, I believe that is the over-arching connection here with my work and the course, as well as the composition of the music and lyrics, it is nice to see a different side of writing words that isn't strictly for a story telling purpose.
