Good way for a couple to decide if they want to commit to each other for life ​

 It is common practice today ​

 You can still show commitment to each other without being married and some couple cohabit all their lives​

 Some may argue you are less likely to get a divorce if you have trialled living with your partner first.

It breaks the sanctity of marriage and the sexual union ​

It removes any sense of commitment from the sexual union ​

 As there is no formal commitment the couple may not feel they need to work as hard at it and it may make them less faithful ​

 It can destroy the sense of family which can have a negative affect on any children​

It is much easier for one of the couple to walk away from the relationship​
