In Lauren Tarshis, "I Survived the Attack of the Grizzlies, 1967", Mel, Kevin, and Pops all go to Glacier National park and meet up with Aunt Cassie along the way. The night before Aunt Cassie came in, Mel came face to face with a bear, but that wasn't the first time she would encounter a bear. They meet a guy named Steve, who teaches them that the reason the bears are interacting with people was because there was trash everywhere. Later, Mel gets chased by a bear and comes close to death. After that moment, they made sure no more trash made it in that park.
