Here I made a mood board full of poster designs that I liked the design of. This later helped me to explore ideas for my own protest poster. I looked at the visual language in these posters, this helped me to understand what makes a powerful design.

Poster development

Here is the progress of the poster I created on pollution. I took my favourite thumbnail sketch, and developed it onto illustrator. I made sure to consider composition whilst creating. For colour, I used the re-colour tool on illustrator to experiment with. This tool helped me find colours that complimented each other well. My poster design is a illustration of a balloon representing the earth bursting. This symbolising that the earth can only withstand much more pollution. I think this poster design was successful.

Adobe illustrator spirals

Here I experimented on adobe illustrator. I created digital spirographs with the shape tool. Whilst creating, I thought of the idea of physical revolution with spinning. This reminded me of the revolution of the earth orbiting around the sun in 365 days. I created a big Spirograph circle, along with smaller spirographs.

Here I created a physical revolution mind map, to help me to explore ideas. The word revolving associates with movement, like turning, twisting and spinning. Physical revolution made me think a lot about planets the solar system, specifically the earths orbit around the sun.

Here I made experiments based of ideas of physical revolution. I used different materials including pencils, pastels, chalk and charcoal. I found the process enjoyable and mindful.

Beatrice Milhazes artist research

Here I made research on a Brazilian artist called Beatrice Milhazes. Her work is influenced by her culture which includes music through bossa nova. Her artwork uses shapes and circular forms, including kaleidoscopes and floral patterns. I felt like she was a good artist relevant to theme of physical revolving. I really enjoyed looking at her artwork. The colours felt uplifting along with beautiful floral patterns, which worked with perfect harmony with each other.

Here I created collages representing the theme of circular forms. I used scrap paper from news paper and magazines. I wanted to show the idea of circles and revolving movement. I cut out newspaper and printed out paper into circles.

Here I made experiments with collage tracing. Which was creating a collage of drawings through images I found from newspapers and magazines. I used tracing paper and traced over images related to the theme of physical revolution. I would like to revisit this technique, I found it quite effective since it was easy and quick to gain ideas.

Dry pastel experiments

Here I experimented with using dry pastels for the first time. I wanted to try out a new materials. I started by using a selection of colours, which I blended to create a background to draw over with. I really enjoyed using the dry pastels, I felt I had a lot of freedom with colour by using blending.

Here I created another mind map on revolution, this time I wanted to brainstorm broader ideas of revolution. This included both physical revolution, social revolution, personal revolution, musical revolution and digital revolution. This really helped me to decide where I wanted to take this project. I felt the most passionate with ideas when thinking about circular and revolving in revolution as well as music revolution.

Here is peer feedback I received week 3 into my project. This feedback helped me to decide the flaws and problems of my project early on. My peers helped by suggesting ideas and steps to take to move forward into the project. I realised I was making lots of artist research, with no responses. Therefore I started to create material experiments in response to the artists .This peer feedback helped me a lot when planning to write my project proposal.

Canvas experiments pt2

Here I made a continuation to my canvas experiment, using alcohol ink and acrylic paint. I needed to try to incorporate circles into my work. I used a jar lid dipped in paint to create paint circles. I also used a mechanical stencil design with spray paint. I used other tools including a scraper, a pipette, a spray bottle, to create textures and effects.

Here I used collaging to create frames. I had the idea of using collaging in my final piece, but I wasn't sure how. I used scrap paper including paper from old books to create this circular tunnel which I thought could potentially be in my final outcome.

This is my final piece plan. Here I began to refine thumbnails for potential final outcomes. This process allowed me to pratice composition and decide on the different steps including gathering materials, practicing drawings or material tests I would need to take.

This is my final outcome for the project of revolution.

This is an mixed media a2 sized illustration which represents the physical revolving, through shapes and natural forms including flowers. The materials include watercolour, alcohol ink and coloured pencils. I have used a variety of different processes including stamping, collaging and stencilling. I think my final outcome came out well, the composition, and different materials create interesting textures and mark making.
