Han Fei's known works are combined into the 55 chapters of Han Feizi

For his philosophy on laws, he took inspiration from Shang Yang, who thought that loyalty to the state was above loyalty to family, and that laws should be enforced impartially, ignoring status.

Han Fei borrowed ideas from Shen Buhai, with his emphasis on techniques, meaning that he agreed with the heavy lean towards bureaucracy and a ruler being distant from the other government officials.

He also combined into his beliefs Shen Dao's ideas on legitimacy and authority, believing that authority rises and is held due to the nature of circumstance, instead of aligning with a set of values. Things will generally not form and ethical system

He also interpreted Lao Zi's work, Tao Te Ching, as a political text, seeing Dao as natural law that everyone and thing follows.
