NOT slow, clumsy, and dumb). In the movie, she befriends him and he unintelligently throws her in the lake just like the flowers to see if she floats. I'm unsure whether or not it brings the father back to shoot the creature or if it went into any other detail about the two characters either.

Back then, it was easier to make him clunky, dumb, and slow since they didn't have the ability to do create the creature portrayed in the book and stick with the overall theme of it without boring the audience. Because of this, they often make it in an evil laboratory with a clear way of how Frankenstein brought him to life, and, in this case, a few spectators. The book is much more dark and mysterious, leaving much up to the reader when it comes to how he comes to life, the atmosphere when it happens, etc.
