When thinking about loving relationships/marriage, there is indeed a certain set of actions that partners must follow. First and foremost, both partners have to respect each other. A healthy relationship cannot thrive on toxicity. In terms of niche roles, men and women have to work together to support each other and their families (if they decide to have children). For example, financial stability is crucial whether it be the man who works or the woman. Even though back then it was men that worked and the women took care of the chores in the house, society has seen scenarios where the roles are revered. Each partner has to ensure that they are both benefiting each other in a loving and caring way.
The action included in this video were from times where society was very traditional. This is how a successful nuclear family was developed. It would make sense that during these times that men and women filled certain job roles that they "naturally" acquired. However, times have changed and we are stepping away from this traditional way of life.
After watching this video, I had some thoughts. I feel the women in the video were treated like slaves. Women had more expectations of them in society and had to follow a set of rules. That should not be the case as women are independent people and should not have to be bound by their male counterparts in society. It is a good thing that women stepped away from this way of life and offered more to society in terms of labor forces and economic contributors. Its crazy to think that a lot of women just went along with this way of life and did not complain. This demonstrated that they were very loyal and devoted to meet certain expectations society bestowed upon them.

This story is unreal. Even though the college pupil broke the housing rules, it stirred up a situation that was blown way of out proportion. Who would have thought that her simple actions would generate a huge uproar. I feel as though the college administration as well as the reporters took this story out of context. The girl simply wanted to live with her boyfriend and broke a petty housing rule which resulted in her being expelled. The girl was indeed wrong breaking the rules, but she should not have received this harsh punishments for a minor infraction. It is also crazy that this generated a lot of emotion from other students as they wanted change to transpire. Something like this now could not happen as many people in college break housing rules every day. If they were to get caught, they should receive minor punishments depending on the severity of the situation. Also, officials and news reporters do not have to get involved in a petty situation like this unless there was something bigger going on behind the scenes.

Without the invention of the pill, things would be completely different. There would be more pressure on a woman to refrain from sex and to resist her urges. Women in society would also feel a lot more anxious because they want to please their partners, but would have to do it at the expense of her fears of a unwanted pregnancy. We would also see a lot less women in the workforce as they will not feel a sense of independence that the pill provides. In addition, there would be a lot more accidental pregnancies. This can cause many complications. For example, increase medical costs (abortions) for women and subjecting more infants to group homes. It is a good thing the pill was invented to refrain from all these problems. There were a lot of social changes like the development of the feminist movement and women's rights activists playing their part in spreading change. The pill was indeed a huge contributor to giving women their independence and freedom.

I'm confused as to what the problem was. If LeClair found a loop hole in her college's current housing rules in order to live with her boyfriend, then good for her. I don't see why she should be punished because she didn't break any rules, she found a way around them. Furthermore, if the college really didn't want boys and girls living together, then the college is more at fault for overseeing their loop holes and allowing LeClair to live with her boyfriend in the first place.

I could see something similar to this happening now. I'm sure there are still loop holes and ways around college rules that students find and the colleges aren't happy about

When I think of a loving relationship I do believe that each partner needs to participate in certain actions. For example respecting each other is huge you can't be in a relationship with someone if they aren't going to respect you. Another is being patient with each other. The video made sense to me because it was old and from back in the day when it was normal for the wife to stay home and cook and the husband was suppose to work. In today's world it isn't like that anymore in most relationships both partners work. But when it comes to the actions that were shown in this video I remember one saying 'Don't talk to much" I feel as though that isn't practiced today because it shouldn't matter whether you talk to much or to little you should just be yourself. I knew a lot of things that they said in the video did happen back in the day so I wasn't really surprised when I watched it.

But at the same time she did break a rule and if you break a rule you are going to have to deal with the consequences. I do feel that this could happen today in colleges and it probably is. A lot of college aged students are in serious relationships and want to either stay the night with their partner or live with their partner. So I can see students breaking the rules to be with their person. I don't believe that it is right to do and I don't agree with breaking the rules but I just have a feeling that it is happening today.

As a young lady, who recently started a new relationship, it is to my understanding and my personal beliefs that in order for it to be successful, there needs to be a balance between my boyfriend and I. We both need to respect each other not just as a couple, but as people. I am lucky to have been born in a society where women are more respected and equal to men (for the most part). With that, I have a very strong personality where if my boyfriend disrespects me, or mistreats me, I have no problem standing my ground and standing up for what is right and what I believe in. From the video, at that time in society, those actions do make sense to me because it was nationally accepted to treat women like objects and to force them to do whatever it takes to please the man of the house or just a man in general, no matter how absurd it seemed. My initial reaction to this video was me being dumbfounded. It is nearly impossible for me to believe that this is how women were seen and treated. It is absolutely ridiculous that women (the ones who birth the children of the world) were seen as nonimportant figures and worthless if not tied to a man.

My reaction to this incident is that I was very surprised at first. During those times, it was clear that that kind of behavior was wrong for a woman to do. However, I do have to agree with the school to an extent because she did break the rules, they were stated clear as day, so as a future educator, I would be a little disappointed if there were no disciplinary action enforced, even coming from a woman. In today's society, with this specific situation, this would not happen. If a college student wishes to live off campus with a partner, they are free to do so. Now I am not sure if the same goes with private colleges, but I know public ones do not force students to live on campus. In other situations like Covid-19, it is essential that EVERYONE follow the restrictions and regulations to keep us all healthy and safe. Unfortunately, we all know that most people choose not to do this.

The invention of the pill was as said in the video, a "revolution for women." This allowed women to be given a choice and chance to explore sexuality but also have the freedom to pursue what they had wanted without the risk of an unwanted pregnancy. Also mentioned in the video, this sparked more women to attend college in the future, which is also very vital to our society today.

Society has grown from this time allowing for equality to women and men for most circumstances, and previous examples like this video have shown just how far we have came.

Obviously when breaking rules there are consequences, so on their part I don't blame them for overall punishment. However, the punishment she received was too extensive and the rules should have been reviewed before she got expelled. It was clear many other students agreed with her. Having punishments for breaking rules is necessary but I feel that there needs to be some kind of warning first before skipping to a huge punishment. There was a group of students who also agreed that the punishment was taken way too far. With the world we are living in today and all the rules in place I strongly feel that students at Stockton can go through something similar. The difference is that today, the rules are so strict right now for health and safety issues.

A lot of things discussed in this video were things that have and will be done in relationships forever because they are the respectful thing to do. Looking and acting your best when meeting your significant others family for the first time stuck out to me the most, wanting to make a good first impression is something that will never change. In today's society I feel that a relationship needs to be 50/50 though. Both partners need to have equal love and respect for each other. In order to have a loving supportive relationship both partners need to be willing to work with each other to make the other happy.

Trust each other without having any doubts. This video made me think of what women use to do in the 40's and 50's. Dress properly, don't argue back, and don't get to emotional. Some of the things the video said I do agree on. Like making sure you shower or eating properly in front of other people.

This video revealed how women had to act a certain way to get a man to marry her. I believe that in a relationship, you have to be equal. A women should be able to get emotional in front of her man and vice versa. In the video, I agree with the showering part and keeping the lingerie clean. That's stuff someone should do even when you aren't in a relationship. Nowadays, woman can be who they want to be and don't have to act a certain way to just please men. Today, we can please ourself without a man.

And personally, I think being in a relationship means trusting one another with vulnerability when it comes to our thoughts and feelings. And to see how the video suggested for women to not too much kind of bothered me. And I reacted this way because I think communication is key to anything, whether its a friendship or relationship. But times have changed, and I am glad that we have progressed as a society where women do not have to follow these circumstances and behave this certain way anymore.

The pill was a great invention that allowed women to decide for themselves and their body. For young girls who don't want to have babies yet and for women who don't want to have babies at all. They had control over their decisions with this pill. I believe this had the greatest impact for women. For instance, they wouldn't have to go through the dangerous procedure of aborting a child.

I feel like her punishment was very harsh and there was certainly no need to expelled her, maybe just a warning that is she does it again she we'll have to face the consequences. Also I feel like we've come a long way because now you can dorm with people with the opposite sex if you have permission of a parent or are over the age of 18 I think so the rule is kinda dumb. But overall college students break rules and rules will be continuing to be breaking and there's not much you that can be done about it.

For instance, equal (appropriate division of) house work, making time for each other, little things to make each other smile, ect. The biggest issue I take with the actions in the video is because how, obviously sexist, one sided the action are, all telling women things to change about themselves in order to appease their man. The only two actions in the video that seemed relevant to me would be, "removing BO," which I would rather consider as taking care of personal hygiene, and "eating right," both of which are more important to do for you than it is for your significant other. However i would hope my partner would want me to stay healthy and take care of myself as much as I know I do.

That would mean showing thoughtfulness, consideration, and attentiveness to your romantic partner. However, I believe in any relationship with another person you have to show respect to that person. The video shows how society, in the 40’s and 50’s, expected woman to behave in regards to seeking relationships or keeping a “good” relationship with a spouse. This video did not make sense to me, as I could not believe PSA’s like that were even broadcasted. In my opinion, the video was very sexist towards women. The video honestly made very mindless suggestions on how women should act and did not portray women in a positive way.

My reaction is that it could have gone a different way. The punishment of the girl being banned from the cafeteria and social events was a little too much. If the college she attended had a no co-habitation rule on campus, then she should not have broken the rules. However, if she was living off campus in a private apartment, then I personally do not see anything wrong with what she did. If she was living in a private apartment, I do not believe she should have been punished and certainly not expelled. This could probably happen today only if the university had a policy in place that stated no co-habitation on campus. If a student knows this policy and still agrees to accept admission, then the student should expect a consequence if the policy is broken. I believe universities today have taken certain measures to offer a variety of housing options to attract more students.

I think so, the pill can have a certain impact on women who are in relationships. The pill, used as a contraceptive, can give a woman the power to control when she chooses to start a family. In many cases, the pill is not always used as a contraceptive but it can help to regulate a woman’s menstrual cycle and lighten the menstrual flow. In the video clip the pill is portrayed as giving women a self-confidence and power to their bodies and having the right to control their bodies as well. I believe allowing women to have access to the pill was one of the most powerful social changes for women in history.

If this is love, I'd rather be lethally injected to finally get it over with. This "advice" has no bearing on anyone because it exists purely to shame women. The creators of this video do not care about your hygiene or your health-- they care about marrying women off. Walking on eggshells is not a healthy relationship.
What the hell is a healthy relationship anyway? I can only think about them in idealistic ways. You know like talking out issues, breakfast in bed, sharing responsibilities... but that stuff doesn't always happen, at least I've never seen it. Hopefully a healthy relationship has love at its core and is built on teamwork. A shared taste in music doesn't hurt either in my opinion.

This story only got traction because a young woman did it. I'm sure men at Columbia snuck in girls all the time and didn't face any of these harsh punishments let alone expulsion. Why didn't Linda's boyfriend face any punishment? Wasn't he just as compliant? This couldn't happen today unless it was part of an Onion article. If a boy lived in my apartment I would feel uncomfortable to do things I normally do, like walk around in a towel after getting out of the shower or not wear a bra. Girls and boys just live differently, most of the time that is. I'm not saying it never works but I just think it is smart to keep boys and girls in separate housing.

The pill has saved countless women from being trapped in unsavory relationships with men. It's not to say that you can't leave a relationship if you have children, but it's a helluva lot easier when you don't. The pill has allowed for sexual freedom and for women to have or not have children on their own terms. Had the pill not been invented I'm sure we would've seen a rise in population and teen motherhood. The condom can't save us all. I can tell you for certain that it definitely wouldn't have prevented people from having sex and thus reproducing. Though it has its issues, I truly believe that the pill is one of the greatest inventions in modern history.

This story leaves me mostly with aggravation. I have always failed to really fathom the control and right to control, large institutions have, or have had, over independent persons personal life. Linda's relationship, and choice to live with her long time committed boyfriend, should not be at regulation of an educational setting, when it's not affecting her education. It also implies a lack of control of young people to not fornicate at every occasion, also that that is the only reason to live with someone of the opposite gender.
I have lived with at least one male for the last three years of college, so I know that this is something that, is less likely to happen no, and co-ed is more accepted. That's not to say it's impossible, but that school would definitely struggle more now in their justification than Barnard did.

I personally am not on the pill but i certainly do not denounce people who are on it. It is a woman's choice whether she wants to have a child or not and I think relationships would not be the same today if it had not been invented. If an unwanted baby was conceived it would've been aborted, adopted, or brought up in a home where it wasn't wanted. I do believe that you cannot just cross your fingers and hope for the best though. If you are not ready for a baby, preventative measures should be taken, even if it is not the pill. I cannot think of any other social changes that had much more of an impact on society.

I personally think that the pill had the greatest impact on the sexual revolution and awakening of women in America. The pill finally allowed for a relief of fear from unwanted pregnancies, and a life that is dictated by a mistake. It finally allowed for more control over their own reproduction. Something that, even today, has been a hot topic, as regulations on abortion and reproductive care are floated around. That is not to say that the pill didn't come with its own issues and stigmas, but overall it definitely improved women's sexual freedom, and lead to various innovations of similar contraceptive devices.

Also the relationship should be on 50/50 balance. In addition to that if they have a kid the mother doesn't have to be a stay at home wife. She can work like a man is working. They are figuring out what they are going to do to support the child. In the video I agree with certain things like showering and keeping the lingerie clean. You always make sure you're fresh and clean. That's men and women. I disagree with always looking good for dinner with the fam. I disagree with that because you don’t need to look for a good time and it’s your house. My initial reaction of the video was that this is the ideal look society has on women.

I honestly believe ever relationship is different and comes with their own boundaries and rules set by both partners together. I feel like it is hard to give a set of rules for all relationships to follow because every single one will be different and each couple will have to face different obstacles. Along with that I feel like everyone may want something different out of their partner which is why each individual in a relationship may have different deal breaker that other in a different relationship may not care about. I think what is important is that you work with your partner and as long as you aren't trying to change who they are to fit the image you have in your head you will be able to maintain a good and healthy relationship. On that note I disagree with this video 100%. First of all, I don't think it is fair that only the women are being told what they need to do in order to keep a man. First of all not all men want the same thing nor do the same thing bother them. I am sure not every husband cares so much about his wife dressing up for dinner. I think the pressure put on women to make themself perfect for a guy back then was not fair and disgusting. Like I said before I feel like people should only do what they feel comfortable doing in a relationship and marriage. Things shouldn't be done specifically for the other person but for yourself to make yourself happy first.

After reading the article, I believe the punishment given to LeClair was very harsh. I understand that there are consequence to everything, especially because she broke a housing rule. And I am not trying to justify her actions because I do not think what she did was right, but I do think that the severity of the punishment given to her was fair either. Instead of expelling her, I think they should have given her a warning or a minor punishment. I also believe that I could see this happening in any University today because many people tend to break rules, for instance, like the housing rules that are set for students in Universities to follow due to Covid. But many students take them lightly and break them instead. And I am sure they will figure out a way to not get caught, but if they were to get caught I believe the University would make the rules less inflexible for students to break in the future.

I believe that she did deserve some type of consequence for breaking the rule no matter how dumb the rule may seem to me. However, I do believe it was also taken too far. I believe that students in college should be free to make their own choices and are old enough too. The fact that this college treated the girls so strictly is a problem of its own but again she knew the rule and broke them. Now if it was that she found a loop hole around the rule then I believe that would be the schools fault. Her punishment should have been smaller than expulsion. I believe something exactly like this may not have been treated the same now in this exact context. I believe now and days once you are in college, you are treated like more of an adult with more freedoms and the school does not care as much as they use to about supervising the students and being strict. However due to covid, right now there are rules set in place regarding housing that I could see similar repercussions for. I know of people who have been kicked out of housing for having people in their room. But again this is due to a virus and to keep us safe and has nothing to do with genders living together.

When I think of a loving relationship/marriage it includes equal actions of each partner. Both people in a relationship must put in effort to be understanding of each other. They must also each be as supportive as they can and communicate. Also it is important that both upkeep their personal hygiene and most importantly don’t feel the need to change and feel comfortable being themselves. Overall, the actions stated in the video do not make much sense to me. And in all honesty seem ridiculous, as they feature many very harsh and unnecessary expectations for women compared to men. Notably, the rule that suggests women to keep to themselves and stay quiet. Also, the rule that tells women to not get mad because it will trigger and ruin their partners mood. Overall, the efforts said to have to be taken for a successful relationship are too one-sided. The women seems to have to be submissive and upkeep many things to satisfy the man. And the man appears to be the the judge of the women’s efforts in the relationship.

It is hard to be in a relationship where you care for someone and don't respect your partner. It is not "love" if your partner flirts with another person or cheats. If you are not able to be with only one person, then you shouldn't even be committed in a relationship or even get married. The ones included make sense to be to a certain extent. I think a female should be able to dress however they wan't. It is important to shower and wear clean clothes. I can agree with that.

When watching the video, I thought that women back then were forced to do things that didn’t want to do just to get/ keep their man. They weren’t even allowed speak their mind because speaking to much would “destroy the charm of the meal”. They had to dress perfectly, shower and look presentable during dinner just for the men. They had to stay at home and look after the kids and made sure that they were well behaved. These things don’t make sense to me. The person you love should be willing to listen to what you have to say without getting annoyed. And nobody should be forced to dress perfectly just so that somebody else will like them, it’s their own decision. Showering and getting rid of body odor isn’t just for women. Hygiene is necessary for both men and women. I believe that every relationship is different and different couples need to contribute differently to make things work.

I understand that every school is different and has their own set of rules and that is totally fine! At the end of the day, she knew the rules and most likely there would have been consequences. She could have prevented this, but I can understand where she is coming from. I think there could have been a different consequence other than this. This does happen today because people living on Campus are not allowed in each others rooms.

There are so but benefits from being on the pill and I am sure a lot of females can agree with this.

Overall, I think that the University could have handled the situation better. They did not have to expel her but could have simply gave her a warning. Especially because they did not have specific housing rules in place against the particular arrangement she set up. Also, this situation seems very unfair as it really only points blame and mainly focuses on her. In all, it seems like the school has double standard when it comes to the way they handle situations with guys versus their girl students. Also, it seems like in general at the time rules applied unfairly to guys and girls. As LeClair points out that, " all-male Columbia had no such rules."

Do I think this could happen now? I think that this could happen now, but I feel like it is less likely to be an issue. As majority of Universities have set co-habitation rules appropriately to respect student's personal decisions.

I do not think things would be the same today without the invention of the pill. The pill has definitely empowered women as it has allowed for them to set themselves equal to men. It granted them less pressure of the decisions they decide to take with their own body. And allowed women to see themselves with the ability to do more than childbirth. Moreover, as they now have more control over their fertility, the pill has allowed them the ability to set career goals that set them to have financial stability, and independence. Overall, among other social changes, like women's voting right, I definitely think that this this had one of the greatest impact.

My initial reaction to the video was a little surprising. However, the logic in this time period was for women to serve their men. This is why men worked and women stayed home and took care of the house and family. I think that in a loving marriage it is required to respect one another and communicate with the same energy/lingo. I also believe that relationships have roles but can be played on either side. For example, women can work while the father stays home. I don't believe in any, "specific," role for men and women.

A woman isn't immoral for taking a pill, it is being safe. Also, nowadays we know that there are several other medical reasons why a woman can use the pill. Even if it is used just as birth control, it isn't a bad thing and make the woman careless. It helps give freedom and less stress for unplanned pregnancies.
