What is deviance?

Deviance is when behaviour goes against society's accepted norms and values. This involves questions of morality. some of these deviant acts can be complex and sometimes conflicting moral dilemmas. Also some of these acts can become criminal depending on the society it is committed in.
In my opinion, i think deviance is wrong! why would you want to watch a sport when the players are cheating? The players are not even playing the game for the sport anymore but for fame and higher financial status's.
there are many reason why some athletes use deviance in sport this could be to gain a better advantage of winning against their opponent, the fear of not succeeding, pressure from coaches and teammates this could be them pressuring them making a high expectation,' this could be ' win at all costs'. Also it could just be from the culture of cheating, 'use or lose', this means that everyone will be taking these performance enhancing dugs as they think that if they don't they will loose.
however there are many positives and negatives with deviance in sport. Yes that's right...positives. some of the positives are entertainment for the crowd watching, wouldn't you rather watch a game where the players are actually good or players who need drugs to be able to even run for longer then 10 minutes? another positive is that it will increase the quality of performance...if the athlete was at the best standard needed why would they need these drugs to increase their performance? Some negatives are that it can deter fans by losing trust. I fully agree with this as why would you want to look up to your 'role models' if you don't know them for them but only who they are using drugs. it also ruins the game and the sports reputation, as soon as one athlete for that sport is found to be using drugs people start to think others are.

Sportsmanship- This is when someone is playing fair and within both the written and unwritten rules of the sport. Underpinned by good etiquette and respect for all. Some examples of this is a player helping an injured opponent up within a game, shaking hands before and after a competition and also it could be performing a guard of honour.
Gamesmanship- This is when a player pushes the rules to the limit without getting caught, using any dubious methods possible to gain an advantage. This could be players surrounding a referee and attempting to influence their decision and simulation
Cheating- This is when a performer deliberately violates the written rules. There is an intention to gain an unfair advantage and actions are deceptive. This could be a boxer removing his padding in his gloves before a match and also performers using performance enhancing drugs.

LARRY NASSAR!

Larry Nassar was a 'wonderful and professional doctor' or so people thought. Larry was a USA gymnastics doctor who worked with many Olympic gold medal winners such as Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber. the case was that Larry Nassar sexually abused around 265 girls within his years of his career. For the amount of years he was abusing these girls, how the hell did no-one who also worked in the center know...? if it wasn't for 'the whistle blower' non of the girl would have ever come forwards. Due to one brave girl coming forward at least 65 victims are set to confront Nassar. Larry was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison after nearly 160 woman testified that he had molested them. along side this charge he is already serving 60 years in prison for possession of child sex abuse images. So if it wasn't for these pictures would he have ever been caught? was this the reason why the whistle blower came forward as she knew he would already be arrested and couldn't find her? He assaulted children the the age of 9... yes 9 years old to the age of 16 in the back room of twistars gymnastics club in Dimondale, Michigan. how can someone get away with this such vile thing for so many years?... wheres the CCTV?.... wheres the other workers? its absolutely appalling! in my opinion... someone else was behind this not just him. And this was the case...https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/gymnastics-scandal-8-times-larry-nassar-could-have-been-stopped-n841091 ( see video )
They SHOULD invest in more CCTV all around every sports center inside and out. all there staff should be DBS checked. Also the most important one is every participant should feel comfortable to talk to any member of staff and the staff should listen and report EVERY incident!

Larry had abused 265 girl....265!!! one of the sexual assaults involved a 13 year old girl, only 13. two of the other victims were abused at they age of 15/16 years old. imagine being only 15 and this happened to you. would you know what to do? know that its wrong? what to say? if it wasn't for live streaming and tweeting these girls wouldn't have been able to participate in this process. the first to speak was a 17 year old called Jessica Thomashow. she told the court that he first molested her when she was only at the age of 9 she also added that at this time she was still playing with her american girl dolls. this shows the actual age of these girls ... they were still children, someones baby! she described Nasser as an evil and a criminal of the worst kind. he traumatized theses girls. what if they couldn't come forward? what if they was stuck with this in their head for the rest of their life? also Jessica's older sister was also abused while studying at MSU. about 140 victims are suing Nasser, USE gymnastics and MSU, seeking monetary damages from institutions they accuse of ignoring all allegations. Many of theses girls got invterviewed about this situation, in my opinion i am very proud of all of these girls as it must be so hard to tell the world what you have been going through for many yeras. here is a link of somke of the interviews with the gymnastis about their view on the abuse....

in this situation i think the whistle blower is one of the most important roles as is gets you thinking...would anyone have come forward if the whistle blower didn't? would Larry Nasser have ever been caught? in my opinion i think the whistle blower gave all the other girls more confidence and power over Nasser as they knew they wasn't the only ones who have been abused. also i think they thought that they can now face him as they have each other by their sides every step of the way! what he did to theses girls was absolutely appalling and 100% not acceptable what these girls have gone through should never EVER happen to anyone ever. however some may say this will help everyone in the world to speak out to their villain knowing people will be by their side. this girls victims more power! as these girls are brave and heroic! theses girls have gone through someone horrendous however they have come out of it stronger!

some of the things that the NGB need to learn more about and improve on is that everyone needs to be DBS checks and that it is fully up to date, a child should have adult supervision as all times for health and safety, also so that everyone should be checked on every so often therefore nothing like this can ever happen again. would you like it if it happened to you or someone you love? think of theses girls? think of their family? have they got the justice they need? no one wants to feel like this so this needs to be adapted as soon as possible to help everyone! absolutely appalling what
