I think he maybe showed that to maybe show how violence isn’t the answer to everything and people shouldn’t kill. One evidence I have to show that is evidence to this theory is that when it said “The lust of battle died in him. He became bitten by remorse. “ it showed that the character did show a lot of regret towards what he was doing and that he wishes he had never killed anyone. Another reason I think he wrote it to show that violence isn’t the answer is because he said “His teeth chattered, he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody.” I think it showed that in the end of all of the killing and war, you are only ending up with anger and hate. I see what the difference is between the two and how the character developed in any way or how the plot line or something like that developed as well. Something that is odd about this story is that the ticking of his watch made him think time was going by slower and slower.
