Bataan Death March: It started in January 7 , 1942 and it ended April 9, 1942. The Bataan Death March is remembered as an absolute tragedy. The prisoners of war were forced to march through tropical conditions, enduring heat, humidity, and rain without adequate medical care. They suffered from starvation, having to sleep in the harsh conditions of the Philippines. As many as 11,000 of the POWs died on the Death March as a result of the cruelty and inhumanity of their guards. The siege of Bataan was the first major land battle for the Americans in World War II and one of the most-devastating military defeats in American history.

Battle of Coral Sea: It started May 4, 1942 and it ended May 8, 1942. Often overshadowed by the Battle of Midway, the hard-fought carrier naval battle in May 1942 in the waters of the Coral Sea north of Australia marked the end of the phase of Japanese triumphs in the Pacific War and proved to be of strategic significance. Time would reveal, though, that the Battle of Coral Sea was a strategic victory for the Allies, in that it preserved Port Moresby. It was the world's first carrier vs. carrier battle, and the first naval battle in which neither side's ships sighted the others.
