To everyone: Dr. Pickhardt describes three types of crushes among teenagers: 1) identity crushes, 2) romantic crushes, and 3) celebrity crushes. Psychologically, which kind of crush (or crushes) do you see manifest in "Romeo and Juliet?" Use textual evidence (include events from the play and quotes from the article) to support your reasoning. -Miss McGraw

In the article called "Adolescence and the Teenage Crush," the author states in paragraph four, "Romantic crushes are formed by finding someone whom they find powerfully attractive, who they feel excited to be around, and with whom they want to spend a lot of time,". Which I think is the type of crush I think Romeo and Juliet has. Before I state any evidence from "Romeo and Juliet," I've heard a lot of stories or even songs about Romeo and Juliet and they are basically saying that Romeo's and Juliet "love" was a good thing. Which is one reason on why I think it is romantic because it is not a celebrity crush because neither one of them are and I don't think it is a identity crush considering that I don't think Romeo nor Juliet want to be like one another. In lines 80- 83 of Act 2 Scene 2 it says, " I have night’s cloak to hide me from their eyes, And, but thou love me, let them find me here. My life were better ended by their hate Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love". Romeo said this after Juliet told him that they would kill him. And he told her that he would rather want to be killed by their hate than the death of waiting on her love. Which I think is a big evidence on how this is a romantic crush. I agree with both Carmen and Perla and I think that they both explained very thoroughly and used good quotes to support their reasoning. - Kimberly H.

In the passage "Adolescence and the teenage crush", it talking about the three types of crushes. In my opinion I think that Romeo and Juliet have a romantic crushes. Because I know it won't be a celebrity crushes or an identity crushes. Puls if you look at the story "Romeo and Juliet" in act 2 scene 2 it states "My bountry is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep. I more I give to thee, the more I have, fro both infinite" (lines 140-143). the person speaking was Juliet express her love to Romeo. this is showing us, the readers that Juliet really loves Romeo. And this is why I think Juilet and Romeo have a romantic crushes. Because both of them have strong feelings for each other. And i also agree with Kimberly and waht she said too about Romeo and Juliet feelings towards each other, and she use a very good quote to us. - Carmen Gonzalez

In the article that we read called "Adolescene and The Teenage Crush" it described three different types of crushes. In the article it explained more about "romantic crushes."In the article it said that "Romantic crushes are formed by finding someone whom they find powerfully attractive, who they feel excited to be around, and with whom
they want to spend a lot of time."(Paragraph 4)This quote explained that they feel a strong connection and affection to just like Romeo and Juliet in the play by William Shakespeare In the play that we are reading called "Romeo and Juliet" I see more of romantic crushes."My bounty is as boundless as the sea,my love as deep, the more I give to thee,The more I have, for both are infinite."(Page 44,Act 2 SC 2).The quote showed that they had a romantic crush because Juliet had a love for Romeo that was said to be infinite. ~Perla G I also agree with both Carmen and Kimberly and what they both believe and said about Romeo and Juliet. Both used great quotes and bothed explained there point thoroughly.~Perla G

I agree with Kimberley, and believe that Romeo, and Juliet have a romantic crush because in the article "Adolescence and the Teenage Crush" by Dr. Carl Pickhardt it states "romantic crushes are formed by finding someone whom they find powerfully attractive, who they feel excited to be around, and with whom they want to spend a lot of time" (Pickhardt 1). This statement shows how romantic crushes are formed with someone you find attractive, which perfectly describes Romeo, and Juliet's relationship because they both find each other attractive as stated in Act l, Scene 5 of "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare "O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night As a rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear— Beauty too rich for use, for Earth too dear" (Shakespeare lines 51-54). This statement shows how Romeo was instantly attracted to Juliet at the ball, and proves how they have a romantic crush. I also agree with the evidence that Carmen, and Perla used to support their answers. -Miya Zheleznyak

I agree with Kim in everything since I also feel like Romeo and Juliet have a romantic type crushed. Since the acts, she listed show the Romeo truly loves Juliet as he rather die than be rejected from Juillet's love. "Deny thy father and refuse thy name. And I'll no longer be a Capulet. 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy: Thou art thyself, though not a Montague." Act 2 Scene 2 shows where Juliet is very forceful about the fact that she loves Romeo, and she announces this without realizing that he's listening underneath her. She also claims that she loves him despite his Montague background, but she denies that his father is a Montague and that his name is Montague's. - arleth garcia

Oh, speak again, bright angel. You are as glorious as an angel tonight. You shine above me, like a winged messenger from heaven who makes mortal men fall on their backs to look up at the sky, watching the angel walking on the clouds and sailing on the air". I feel like that quote shows how Romeo is attracted to Juliet.

In the article "Adolescence and the Teenage Crush" the author describes the three main types of crush including identity crush, romantic crush, and celebrity crush. In "Romeo and Juliet" based on what we have read so far, the reader can tell that Romeo and Juliet have a romantic crush toward each other. In the play in act 2 scene 2, Romeo states " And, but thou love me, let them find me here. My life were better ended by their hate, Than death prorogued, wanting thy love."(Shakespeare 81-83) Based on these lines from the story we can tell Romeo has romantic feelings towards Juliet and he would rather be hated by the Capulets than to die and not have Juliet's love. Although Romeo hasn't spend a lot of time with Juliet he still has romantic feelings for her because in "Adolescence and the Teenage Crush" it states " Because a romantic crush is a potent mix of idealization and infatuation, it doesn't require knowing another person well at all", meaning Romeo and Juliet have a romantic crush. I agree with Kimberly because she has great reasoning and uses quotes from both the article and the story.
