I think that the learning and teaching component has not significantly changed from previous iterations of the IB curriculum and does not offer many fundamentally new challenges or opportunities with the new model.
Yes, there are some differences in the way it is expressed in literature but I do not believe that this will make a significant difference to classroom practices as inquiry has a wealth of best practice examples informing classroom learning.

Teachers new to inquiry learning

There are some opportunities for teachers new to inquiry learning. They will be able to engage with more contemporary ideas on learning and inquiry at the outset, with more specific guidance from the enhanced programme. With the old programme, the description of inquiry expectations often led to confusion so hopefully the enhanced PYP guidance will be clearer. However, I do not believe this will significantly impact experienced teachers.

Giving teachers more flexibility in deciding the appropriate durations and time frames for units provides many opportunities for deepening learning. I love the option of year-long units - so many possibilities!

(Unclear to me: Does new template replace old template? Or is it just another option?)

Beyond filling in the boxes

I appreciate the flexibility in the planning format. At times, I have felt that the 'need to fill boxes' distanced teachers from new thinking and adapting to students understanding. I am hopeful that this will provide new thinking opportunities.
