The pose in each artwork is similar however each exist within their own context. Both look reflectively into their puddled reflections and wish for more. Slouched poses symbolic of giving in appear in both images.
Both are oil on canvas and fail to have a connection with the audience. This signifies the selfish narcissistic nature of the subjects.
Both subjects have similar egos

Zavros' work questions the concept of narcissism through a 21st century lens. The vivid colours, subject matter and title suggest a world of excess and fear of missing out.
The colours in the imagery are contrasting and comment on the traditions and appropriations of the times in which they were made. The bodies of water are contrasting, in Zavros' re-interpretation he is floating in a pool, a symbol of modern success and excess yet still with an expression of someone without. Caravaggio's subject is forced to stare into a puddle, symbolic of a leftover body of water, a life of someone without.
