On page 22/25, the cover can foreshadow a war is about to start. The cover is a picture of some people (mice) looking up at a swastika flag. However, the words, “The Honeymoon”, II don’t get how that plays a part. One event that happens is that Artie keeps going back to see his father. The reason is to hear more of his story while he updates his book. Another event is that we learned that Anja was involved with communists by translating things to German. She later asked a seamstress to hide the files she had with her so she wouldn’t get arrested.  Next, Vladek started his own textile factory. Anja’s father starts talking to Vladek about wanting their grandchild to be well off, and while Vladek states he could maybe start a textile shop, Anja’s father gives him enough money to make a factory. The fourth event is that Anja and Vladek have their first child, Richiev. We learn that he was born before the war began, he was premature, and he is currently not alive. Lastly, the last event is that Anja becomes depressed. She begins to talk about how she doesn’t want to live anymore. The animals that are used to portray the Germans and Polish are pigs and cats. Pigs are usually known to be dirty and messy while cats are more known to keeping to themselves.  I liked the way Spiegelman used different animals because it helps me understand their dynamics more.  

On page 38/41, the cover foreshadows how violent the Germans were. One event that occurred is Artie and Vladek bickering. They mainly bicker about how Vladek always made Artie eat foods he didn’t like. Another event is that Vladek was barely trained before going into the field. He often got little sleep and barely ate. Next, an officer makes Vladek shoot. As the officer saw that Vladek’s gun was cold, he commanded him to shoot. The fourth event that occurred is that Vladek finally makes it back to his family. He asks one of the people working on the train to help him sneak back to his town, and the man complied. Lastly, as Artie is heading out, he notices that Vladek threw out his jacket. Vladek tell him how he should start dressing better. Spiegelman visually shows up some Nazi’s murdering Jews and others drinking liquor and having a good time.  This shows how the Nazi’s enjoyed killing them. The incident with Artie and his father shows that Vladek just wants the best for his son, but he doesn’t know how to show it. Artie just wants his dad to stop making his decisions for him since he’s an adult now.
