Sweatt v. Painter was a supreme court case that challenged the "separate but equal" doctrine. It involved the right of Herman Sweatt, an African American, to attend Law School at the University of. Texas. University of Texas even created a separate law school for African Americans just to keep Sweatt out. The supreme court ruled that the Equal Protection Clause required that Sweatt be admitted to the university. This is because the court found "law school for negroes" grossly unequal to the University of Texas Law School. This case and decision is important because this case was influential in the landmark case of Brown v. Board of Education.

Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt ruled that Texas cannot place ridiculous restrictions on how abortion clinics deliver their services. The previous law that brought this case about was that abortion clinics/ providers were required to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers and hospitals. For most clinics these requirements were too expensive and time consuming which caused the number of clinics in Texas to go from 42 to 19. This made Whole Woman's Health start a case against them to prevent even more restrictions from receiving the care that they are looking for.

A Casey developed between Madison vs Alabama in the death penalty was issued based on if someone with dementia should be executed if he does not remember his crime. I believe this is significant to American politics and democracy because not only is this a situation that cannot be explained as far as if the defendant is lying or not. In the case Madison was convicted three times of killing a police officer and was sentenced to death. While he was on death row he suffered from 2 strokes and it caused impairment. To a certain extent I believe someone should have documentation of showing signs of dementia before he or she can be convicted. In this case this patient has had history as far as previous medical issues.
