Paragraph 2:By the third year of the American War, several victories were achieved by the Confederate states and their commander. Robert E. Lee against the Union armies. Robert E. Lee had a very special plan which was to move his army to the north which was through Maryland and into Pennsylvania. He figured that by doing this he would not only give his farmers space but also gain support from the Europeans and distract the Union from their "objectives in the east".

Paragraph 3: In June of 1863 commander Lee started to move his army towards Fredericksburg, Maryland and northward. The Union and their commander, Major General Joseph, began to move parallel to the Confederates trail. He was warned and told to keep defense by president at the time, Abraham Lincoln, in case of attacks in Washington D.C. and Baltimore. As the two armies were getting to Gettysburg, the Union's commander Major General Joseph, was replaced with Major General George Meade.
