In 2015 statistics show that 43 percent of Americans own guns. There is 101 guns per 100 residents. United States is ranked #1 in guns per 100 people. Secondly is Serbia with 58.21 guns per 100 residents. In third is Yemen with 54.8 guns per person. There is a regional difference with the guns per 100 residents. I am against gun control because Americans should be able to purchase guns for their protection.

I am strongly against gun control because if you try and eliminate the assault rifles, then we have no way to defend ourselves in case of a terrorist attack. There is no proof that Bill Clinton's assault weapons ban reduced crime by any amount. But there is proof that crime has sunk because there are so many firearms out today. The reason that we have weapons today is to protect from tyranny of the government...we can't compete when we only have pistols and knives against assault rifles. Another reason we need assault rifles is it, scares away other nation's trying to invade, during World War 2, Japan thought about invading the United States, but didn't because 'behind every blade of grass was a firearm'. My final reason is just because you make something illegal from selling in stores, does not mean they will not be sold. When was the last time you saw Meth or Cocaine on a store shelf?

-Nate Britenfeld

School Shootings and terror acts make a bad look on the distribution of guns because it just shows how easy it is to find access to guns and with limiting the distribution of law most likely school shootings and terrorist attacks would decrease. Statistics say that there has been 142 school shootings since the Sandy Hook shooting due to easy access and distribution

In the U.S you'll have to go through a background check when you're buying a gun from a pawn shop or store and fill out a form from the ATF, or the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

My view on gun control is that it is useless to try because criminals will always find ways to obtain weapons illegally, again, I have never met 'law abiding criminal', and if you think making it illegal to own a firearm will work, it won't work when was the last time you saw meth or Cocaine sold on a store shelf? Another thing is that firearms are to protect us against tyranny from the government, we can't protect ourselves with pistols and hunting rifles against Assault rifles and fully automatic weapons, we just can't, we need firearms to keep the government in check. And I do agree that stricter background checks wouldn't hurt but background checks don't solve everything if the fire arm is obtained illegally. While many firearms a year stop murders , 80% of people illegally carrying a firearm do not buy them from gun stores or gun shows, they get them from a social network from things like gangs and etc... And at least 30% of firearms being illegally carried are stolen. Crime has fallen lately with a firearm crime rate in 1993 at 7.3, while in 2016 it is 2.7. The modern assault rifle has a considerably lot less firepower then a hunting rifle.
-Nate Britenfeld
