Explain in 2-3 sentences.
I do not think books will be relevant in the future. No matter how many people prefer printed versions, it will not be enough to keep the stores open.

a. What books do you read? Give 1-2 examples. Do you read them in print versions/digital versions?
I used to read lots of fantasy books, for example: the Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer. Now, I gravitate towards romance-themed books, specifically Colleen Hoover's books. My most recent read was Verity by Colleen Hoover. I usually read them in print versions because I prefer the feel of a physical book, however, I sometimes read the digital versions because it's more convenient.

b. What challenges does digitisation pose to book-reading habits?
Some people might stop reading as much due to their favourite books not being printed due to digitisation, which could lead to them completely cutting off reading.

c. How is this going to impact physical bookstores? Think about the situation in Malaysia, or in your home country.
95 bookstores have closed down in Malaysia since 2018 due to Covid-19 as the main contributing factor, but as well as the less demand on physical printed books, as people are either using digitised textbooks/story books or photocopying books. It is safe to say that physical bookstores in Malaysia are heavily impacted due to everyone's goal to cutting costs, because books are quite costly.

d. Will books continue to be relevant in the future? Why? Explain in 2-3 sentences.
Books will stay relevant but in digital form. This is because digital books are just more eco-friendly, convenient because it's light and cheaper.

1. What books do you read? Give 1-2 examples. Do you read them in print versions/digital versions?

I used to read many books during my free time. Sadly, not recently. I prefer to read the genre of history such as historical fantasy and historical stories. Also, I like stories based on the cases happened in the real world like politics, wars, and people. I really do not like to read in digital version unless it is a cartoon. Texts in digital screen makes my eyes tired and I cannot focus better than the printed version.

2. What challenges does digitization pose to book-reading habits?

When I read from the screen not the paper, it's hard for me to follow up the lines, the bright lights coming from the screen is distracting, and most importantly, it does not have the FEELING that I am actually reading so I often read less from the screen compared to the paper book.

3. How is this going to impact physical bookstores? Think about the situation in Malaysia, or in your home country.

Certainly, the number of physical bookstores is decreasing worldwide especially small local bookstores. It may illustrate that the consumers' preference to buy books is less demanding these days. There are so many entertainments other than books that can attract people such as media like music, movie, YouTube, Instagram, etc. In Korea, it is hard to find the bookstores that were existing in one corner of the streets. However, there were loads of marketing of alternative paper books like audiobook or E-book, and the users of the contents are increasing. As physical bookstores are locationally limited, it can be the possible reason of a decrease in number of the stores.

4.Will books continue to be relevant in the future? Why? Explain in 2-3 sentences.

Even though there is a fall in uses of paper books, I still believe that the physical books will never be gone. First of all, the books are easy to memo and highlight as long as we have a book and stationeries with us whereas E-books require certain devices such as computers, smartphones, or tablet computers that not everyone has it. Secondly, it is one of the human activities to learn from the paper books. We have learned and moved the knowledge and history from the paper notes and books since the paper was invented. We are used to it.

Do you read them in print versions/digital versions?
I prefer to read fantasy novels, soI read "DollarGut Dream Store" by Lee Miye and "Midnight Library" by Matt Haig.

(b) What challenges does digitization pose to book-reading habits?
Digital book are more searchable and easier to find, but can be difficult to read for people who don't know much about the tech device. Furthermore, in my experience, the screen is more distracting for read than the actual paper.

(c) How is this going to impact physical bookstores? Think about the situation in Malaysia, or in your home country.
If the use of e-books increases, the number of visits to bookstores will significantly decrease, which may have an economic impact. In fact, since e-books are becoming more and more popular in Korea, people carry an iPad rather than carrying a printed book.

(d) Will books continue to be relevant in the future? Why?
