The railroad took part in the act because the believe the act "imposed unnecessary cost via the purchase of the additional railroad cars." Plessy was told to get out of the "white only" section ,he refused and was arrested His lawyers told the judge that the act violated his rights of the thirteenth and fourteenth amendment.
