I love technology and believe it's a great tool in the classroom. Some teachers struggle with technology and do not want to learn about it. This is a huge concern of mine. Our students don't get the benefit of using technology in those teachers rooms. Does anyone else have the same experience or concern??

Yes, I do! There will always be a small population of teachers who are reluctant to use tech in the classroom. Not just reluctant, but adamant that they are not going to use technology. They are often overwhelmed and cannot willingly embrace a new way of learning. We need to focus on the 90% ( I made that number up, lol) that actually WANT to use technology and are willing to be adventurous with it.

Some teachers are caught up in what they believe the traditional/ "proper" learning experience involves. We can't really control which teacher will personally feel that way, but if they are our colleagues, we can do something about it. We can promote the idea of technology use in their class too them. Offer them help. We wants students to have access to tech in every class, but we must help those change who are too scared to help themselves.

Teachers that are not inclined to technology are more reluctant to utilize it in the classroom. It can be intimidating with all the available technology to decide which is the correct tool for your classroom. It is important to keep encouraging reluctant teachers. I found this video that has tips for supporting reluctant teachers.

Students should be engaged in all lessons, whether it is reading out loud or writing on the board, or speaking out loud in their own opinions, students should be engaged in lessons to ensure they are learning. Technology should be used in a fun way to get students engaged in learning. Change is essential. If students are not using technology and the learning is slow and dull, change it up and include some Powerpoints or videos, or online learning games. Anything to help the students learn should be taken into consideration for the benefit of the students.

I asked a few teachers at our school to get their feelings on why some teachers struggle with technology and do not want to learn about it. We are a small school and many of our teachers are loaded with seven different preps. The following are some snippets of what I heard. “I wish we had the resources for more technology in the classroom.” “Lack of training on what technology we have.” “Lack of time to plan and prepare. Teachers shouldn’t be expected to teach seven different classes and then work for hours at the end of the day or at home to prepare for the next day.” Having time to plan was the major concern.

I think most schools have teachers that feel this way. I believe some teachers feel this way because they see technology as, cell phones and tablets. Teachers who see technology as phones and tablets believe that students get enough "technology" at home. Technology can be very beneficial for students and teachers both. Some teachers just need to be enlightened on technology and the things that can be done using it in the classroom.

My concern with that is that technology is moving very fast. The students know more about the newer technology than we do. The part that scares me the most is that although they have technology knowledge, they still don't know how to use certain programs that are a must as they go to college or to the real-world. We as educators must teach more through technology so it can help the students as they prepare for their future.

Yes! I feel that as a new teacher I will be very open to trying new things and seeing what works and doesn't. This is a concern of mine because I know there will be vet teachers that are stuck in their ways and won't be on board with all of my enthusiasm or my ideas!

technology in a classroom seems to be a touchy subject for teachers. While talking to a few teachers, especially the older teachers, they don't see a need for the amount of technology they are putting in the classroom for kids these days. Some see their jobs at risk in the future. Some feel as though their students will lose the ability to learn hands on and on their own rather than have technology answer something for them. Something I have already noticed in the classroom is the poor writing skills. Now students have a computer to autocorrect everything for them. Students cant even write their own signature, or do simple math problems without a calculator. Their will always be good and bad things about technology in the classroom. you as a teacher will just have to find your own limits to where to include it in the classroom.

Many kids spend the majority of their time on a tablet, watching tv, or anything else technology wise. I think todays children are getting lost in technology and they really need to experience the real world without technology.
