This article explains how the Nile river, found in africa and running through many countries such as, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kongo, and Kenya, played an imprtanr role in the early times of Egypt, and all of Africa really. It says how the Egyptians made good use of the river by planting crops and using it as a main water source. But it wasn't always the best use. I often flooded, drowning crops, or ran dry, causing famine and drought. But I also know from knowledge i already had, that the east side of the Nile was said to be a prosperous place while the west was full of death. The Egyptians often buried their dead on the west side of the river. So, we can see how the Nile river had shaped ancient Egypt, with many aspects of their lives relying on the river, and their actual lives relying on it. The Nile was an extremely important part of ancient Egypt.

She sells water to her neighbors to cover her own monthly water bill. She uses the nursery income alone to pay her kid's school fees.

It makes you realize how much we take water for granted.

The article about Cameroon explained the general facts about this country. The main languages are French and English, although Cameroon is a remarkably diverse country. Cameroon has a triangular shape. Some animals there are screaming red and green monkeys while in the US we do not have those. The Waza national park is meant to protect many of the animals that live in Cameroon. The name "Cameroon" came from cameros, or pawns, that some explorers found in the 15th century in the Wouri River.

He was so determined, had a lot of persistance, and what was most astonishing to me was how one of the presidents said he could get out of jail if he gave up trying to make it equal between races, but Mandela never gave up, he was determined to make it equal. Nelson Mandela's death impacted a lot of people because his story was inspiring and will go on for generation after us.

He was an amazing man. A true hero. I love your comment.

Even though in the majority of the world the fear of Ebola has minimized, it is still taking over most of West Africa. As of December 3, it had infected 15,000, of which had taken 6,202 lives. This was mostly because the locals were not aware of the precautions they were to take. To lower the numbers, the best-known African musicians came together to perform and record the song "Africa Stop Ebola". This song is about what the people can do to protect and take care of themselves. Another strong message in the song is for everyone to trust the doctors, that they know they are only trying to help.

This article surprised me a lot. In the southern half of the desert it is very hot and dry, but in the northern half it can get really cold. The article said that there isn't a lot of rain but it also said that many people drown because of extreme flooding in the area. I also thought it was weird that only one quarter of the desert is made up of sand dunes. The reset is made up of mountains, lakes, and other landforms.

This article is about a woman named Jennifer who lives in Kenya. She grows little baby-tree saplings to sell to her neighbors, who plant the trees to help restore hilltops. She also sells clean water from her pipes. She uses the funds to pay for her own water bills, and to raise her 10 children. With her new income, Jennifer managed to buy a cow, a cell phone, new furniture, and four sewing machine! Water pipes help the community by giving people access to fresh water. In just five years (2005-2010), the amount of fresh drinking water available went from 7% to 94%! There is also a lower amount of malnutrition because more clean water allows more crops to be grown, therefore, more food to eat.

In Kenya, people had to walk up to 15km to fill their jerry jugs up with water. They have to pay 10 Rwandan franc, less than one penny, to get 20 liters of water. I knew that lots of people around the world, not just Africa, had a hard time getting water, but I did not realize that you had to pay the GOVERNMENT to get something ESSENTIAL FOR LIFE! That, to me, seems highly unfair, people need water to survive, and the government found a way to get more money, by taxing them on the water they need to survive, the water they have to carry back to their houses.

I think that Ghana is a very important country and has many differences from the United States. Ghana is located in West Africa, and their "neighbors" are Cote d' Ivoire, Tongo, and Burkina Faso. Ghana is a small country and is slightly smaller than Oregon. Ghana has 6 National Parks and in Kakum National Park there are over 650 butterfly species and many different animals such as leopards, monkeys, and flying squirrels. Ghana's school systems are more advanced than many African countries, and children ages 6-12 go to elementary school. If they can afford it, the children will go to secondary school afterwards. Ghanain people also like soccer (the national sport) and built a soccer stadium in Accra (Ghana's capitol). Overall, Ghana has many great qualities and would be an interesting place to go to or live in.

In 1961 Nelson Mandela was sentenced to 5 years in prison after a protest. After 2 years of being in prison he was sentenced to life in prison. Nelson Mandela was sent to Robben Island after a couple years in prison. Robben Island was a place that was used to isolate political prisoners. After 27 years in prison Nelson Mandela was set free and became the President at age 77 in 1994. He abolished apartheid and later died in 2013 on December 5. He was a very courageous person and never gave up on his dream.

In 2003 40 million people who had Hiv/Aids lived in Africa. In Africa the population of women with Hiv/Aids is greater then the population of men. On the last note 11 million children with HIV/Aids are orphans because their parents died from Hiv/Aids.

The song has been recorded in French, the main language spoken in South Africa, and many more. Which is helpful to those who don't speak the same language as the singers usually do.

Elephants in Chobe,Botswana are the largest elephants living in the world. About 17 percent of Botswana has been set aside for game preserves and national parks. Wildebeests, giraffes, jackals, hyenas, lions, and cheetahs are all natural sites in Botswana, But they’re population continues to decrease due to factors including hunting and farmers protecting their livestock.
THE END

The African history is very cultural and religious. The early men came to Africa about 1.75 years ago and became very aggressive hunters. They lived in caves and used fire to stay warm. In 5000 BC, farming was common in the northern parts of Africa from the stone tools made by the primitive men. The Sahara Desert was a fertile area during the farming in 5000 BC as well. In 3200 BC, the Egyptian culture of the Nile River began. Tools and weapons were made with bronze and the Egyptians started to build the great pyramids. There is much more to African history, and the history is still being made.

Many scientists think that Africa is the birthplace of man kind mainly because of the human looking fossils found in parts of Africa. After that it is belived that humans became very agressive hunters. Like we all thouhgt they lived in caves and used fire to make wepons and stay warm. In 3,200 B.C. the Egyptian culture emerged near the Nile River. Then, in 5000 B.C. farming became common in North Africa. At this time, the Sahara Desert was fertile. Slave trade was then started in the 16th cetury. This happend because Europeans sold African Americans to the U.S. to gain a profit. Sadly, in some parts of Africa slave-like practices are still used.

Radhika Iyengar is part of a project that is attempting to bring literacy to Africa, like Ghana, Nigeria, India, and Malawi. In most classrooms a teacher stands in front of the classroom while the students repeat after the teacher the whole time. Through a siries of tests he noticed a trend that most children can't read a simple text. In Mwandama Millennium Village of Malawi Radhika Iyengar started another learning program for children's educations. Most of the local children attended a government school, inside the classroom each student had a page with a letter in various sizes and a word with the letter inside it. The teacher had a copy of the page and would point to the letter and say the sound it made without doing the american pronunciation style of the letter's name, where something like "m" would become "EM". then the teacher would walk around and correct the student's pronunciation. This is what the Millennium project is trying to accomplish, learning based on science.
