What I enjoy the most is having the huge rug in the middle of the classroom to sit and discuss lessons or group activities. Younger children have a difficult time focusing and sitting in one place throughout the day, and I believe the change in scenery, sitting with their classmates makes them feel more involved. I believe it is very important that children are placed in groups, ideally of fours so we can easily participate in centers and transfer from station to station with ease. This style is actually known as "Feng Shui" and key components of this style are utilizing the Bagua map, paying attention to elements, placing tables in an octagon shape, and making comfort a priority. As you can see in the back of the classroom there is a U-shaped table that is great for pulling groups. There are two whiteboards you cannot see on either side of the teacher's desks that give plenty of room to provide schedules and daily activities. On the walls, I believe it is very important to have your classroom schedules and time, along with a number system for your students for their backpack hooks, laptops, and mailboxes to correlate and create a routine. Of course, bright colors are key for young students, making the walls exciting but not too distracting.
