When he was young he worked for his father, but quickly started bouncing around to different jobs that he was unsuccessful in and unhappy. When times were hopeless for him he met Benjamin Franklin who told him to go to america and gave him letters of introduction. The Common Sense article recommended independance from Great Britain and now is known for one of the first ideas leading towards the declaration of independance.
