Geometric Period

about 750 B.C.
Probably cast in one piece; horizontal striations are visible on the left side of the horse, and on the lower parts of the legs (reworkings of the cast?). The horse is a standard, voluminous silhouette. The mouth and ears, curving forward, are incised. A simple, incised line delineates the tail. The ring on which the horse stands has two drop-shaped pendants suspended from the bottom.
love the rust and colour this piece has taken on, when i can finally cast properly i would love to try some erosion techniques to emulate the piece being around for a long time. i love how one of the only constants through history is using the imagery thats in front of us- we can connect to our ancestors through these constants.

Red pigment is rubbed into the matte surface on the head, arms, and legs, and around the raised lip of the vessel opening.

really love these pieces, feel very precious that someone just wanted to make a bear. he is very cute.

i feel very sad looking at this work, the animals should be reunited as in life, it is a view of these creatures you often wouldnt get. would like to imagine a possible way to view my character like this .. maybe as a cast?

Putting something precious in an inconspicuous place. 

The viewer may do a double take orhave  look very closely to understand it is something other than what they think. I wanted to adorn my room like how Collis adorned the everyday objects.

I loved that I could feel how personal this work was to her through the pages, pieces of her life stitched together over 6 months. This work made me consider how we create stories to go with work we see, Bourgeois seems to have an insight into this also with her stitched quote “I had a flashback of something that never existed” on one of the pages.

Through the artists possessions we can gauge where she was in her life, her feelings and emotions. I feel I can also do this when collecting lost objects- I can feel the owners life through it as I hold a small part of their day in my hand. My own thoughts and feelings are also put onto the object through time, until I lose it and the cycle continues.

Memento mori (Latin 'remember that you [have to] die'[2]) is an artistic or symbolic reminder of the inevitability of death.
