Improved hunting success and improved protection from predators are the two benefits of social behavior. For example, dolphins usually hunt in groups. Since they travel in large groups, they have the ability to trap many fish at one time making hunting easier.

Natural selection is defined as the process where animals adapt to their environment to increase their chance of survival. The longer the animal lives, the longer they have to reproduce and pass traits on to the next generation. Social behavior is one adaptation that allows the animals to live longer and produce more offspring. This allows the population of animals to evolve as those traits developed through social behavior become more prevalent in the gene pool.

For example, during the winter, most bird species fly North to warmer temperature. When they adapted this trait, it allowed them to live longer which results in the trait being passed down through generation becoming a learned behavior.
