One of the first chapters of the book is about the veils women were forced to wear and how they were separated from male classmates. Marjane even goes to a girls only school for the whole book. Every event in the story is caused by or a result of rebellion from the government and just general status of the country. Marjane was raised in a household with rebellious parents and many of the people she knew died because they rebelled from those in power.
