What I know about algae: Algae changes color depending on the salinity. The only algae colors I have heard of (before reading the article) was green and pink. It was interesting learning new colors of algae.

There are harmful algal blooms and you should not go near them. Higher and lower levels of salt can make the algae green and pink

What I know is that algae is a small- sometimes single celled- organism that thrives in sunny weather and salty conditions. I also know that although it is often thought to be green, it comes in a variety of colors. I also know that it is a staple in the diet of brine flies and brine shrimp.

I would like to know how the cells and organisms come together to make different types of algae, and why we know about algae in the first place.

I have learned a lot from this article such as, that some algae can be harmful to humans. I also learned that "The difference in color between the lakes North and the South Arms is due to a railroad causeway that was built to replace the old wooden trestle bridge in the 1950s. Unlike the old bridge, which allowed lakewater to flow freely, the rock and dirt causeway essentially dammed the lake, cutting off water flow and creating the two arms." - Ella
