“Collecting more taxes than is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery.” This is said by Calvin Coolidge explaining that some people of the United States are taxed way to much for the benefits they have. In the United States the average American spend over $10,000 each year in federal, state and local income taxes. The poor if they have a job get paid minimum wage of $7.25- $8.15, which would only be a little over $15,000 per year and that doesn’t account for the of groceries and the bills that they have to pay. There is no way the poor could pay as much taxes as the rich, it’s just not fair. Of all Americans, the rich have to ability to give so much more than they give in taxes, also majority of Americans can’t afford and the top tier can help balance out the budget with their share. The rich and the poor both pay the same amount of taxes but the rich have the ability to pay more as for the poor can’t do it as well.

The overused picture of the welfare queen with five children, driving around in a Cadillac, watching movies on an expensive tv, and eating junk food in the chair has had its day. People are choosing to live off of the government and taxpayer money, rather than try to work for a living, while still spending the money they receive on unnecessary, and oftentimes expensive items. This is important because the taxpayer money that is being unethically used, could be going towards helping our economy. If this nation is to do itself a favor, the welfare collectors need to do all they can to develop a good work ethic to help them live without assistance. If they are to collect welfare, it should be used ethically, and should not be the sole income that they live on. The history and statistics are showing that the cost of drug testing far outweighs the benefits of the process. Welfare is good for a short period of time, and not to be taken for granted. Although welfare is needed, some recipients unethically and overuse the system. Despite the fact that some people trust that welfare help the poor, so they can become financially stable, but in reality welfare programs cause people to become dependent on the government tax dollars, and decrease their motivation to work.

For anyone who has ever been in high school, clothes are always a big deal. You worry about how you look and for some about wearing the latest fashions but schools always restrict on what to or what not to wear to school; especially for girls. Skirt lengths, yoga pants, tank tops are all problems. Showing shoulders are NOT a problem. People make up excuses for these dress code restrictions such as: boys will stare, they can’t control themselves, and etc. Administrators also will send girls home if they notice , even when they’ve worn it all day without anyone noticing. No one even cares at this point, men and boys are more than capable of looking away and keeping their hands to themselves. Besides even in sports when it is warm out, boys are allowed to run around shirtless in front of girls. The least you can do it let them wear tank tops showing their shoulders. Girls are always being restricted more with the dress code than boys, we should overthink the dress code.

Did you know that you need to be stick thin and have a picture perfect face all the time? At least, that's what the media has taught us to think. With social media becoming more popular than its ever been, the idea that the media promotes of the unrealistic “perfect” self has become more and more of an issue in today’s society. We are taught to believe that having a flawless face and an excessively skinny body that is portrayed in countless movies, TV shows, magazines, and advertisements is the standard that we need to meet. However, what people are oblivious to are the dangerous risks that come along with influencing the idea of having this ideal body. If one is not meeting these standards of the “perfect” body that the media promotes, low self esteem is often an issue that can lead to eating disorders, suicidal thoughts or actions, and even bullying can occur to those who don’t measure up to those standards that today's society so widely accepts. The media is a major source for body shaming due to the idea of the “perfect” body that causes such low self esteem, which can result in dangerous and even life threatening risks.

Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year in the United States. That's nearly three times more students than the whole state of Ohio even has. Of course, Ohio is not that large of a state, so putting that into a bigger perspective that is half of the student population in the state of California. School staff always talk about how bullying needs to stop and that it is very bad, but do they actually take action? Suicide has now become the third leading cause of death, typically the result of bullying. When bullying has gotten to a certain point violence tends to be the outcome. The media often portrays bullying as a one time fight, but it is truly so much more than that. Bullying has been a huge problem in schools for far too long, and even though it’s not always physical, bullying can also mentally damage people for life and it must be stopped.

On August 9, 2014, Michael Brown was shot multiple times and killed by officer Darren Wilson. Multiple witnesses stated that they saw Brown charge officer Wilson; however, other witnesses stated that Brown had his hands up and was turning himself in when officer Wilson shot him. Unfortunately, there was no physical footage of the encounter to prove either side. Following this event, the topic of police officers wearing body cameras was brought to everyone’s attention. If officer Wilson would have been wearing a body camera, it would have given full clarity to both sides of the encounter. Body cameras on police officers helps to evaluate the cop, as well as give evidence of the encounter in court if it is needed. If all police officers wear body cameras, it will help clarify the encounter for both the police officer and the suspect.

Yes, the teachers should be able to have firearms to protect their students from harm by possible intruders. “Armed teachers will help keep kids safe in schools across America. One of the characteristics of mass shootings is that they generally occur in places where firearms are banned: malls, schools, etc.” (Arming Teachers, 2013, p.30) Schools are prone to intruders because of their lack of security. Schools need to have teachers that are armed. Teachers need to be properly trained with their concealed weapons. The benefits that would come from having teachers that are armed in schools would be a great safety feature.

"It's like night and day." This is a direct quote from Rudolph Saunders on the difference in behavior from students in uniform and students on 'dress down' days. For decades now school boards across the nation have been arguing back and forth on whether or not public schools should adopt school uniforms. The lack of school uniforms in public schools are leading to a worse educational experience for all students, and this problem needs to be addressed soon. School climate is increased by school uniforms all at the same time solving the new found problems in enforcing and arguments over the school dress codes. School uniforms have also been found to decrease office referrals and gang interactions in school systems. The increase in student behavior and overall educational experience for the students all public schools should enforce a school uniforms.

Factory farms produce the majority of commercial meats in America. These farms provide meat for fast food chains, grocery stores, and local restaurants. These farms are not only bad for the environment, but they are also harmful to the environment, the consumers, and family farms. With these kinds of statistics, free birth control should be an option to all women. This is important because it could help women of all ages, especially if they are low income and cannot afford birth control. Birth control should be free because it will reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions, it has some serious health benefits for women, and it will benefit taxpayers. Many people think giving women free birth control to women would be a waste because it could give them a false sense of safety, but it can actually benefit them in many ways.

1.2 trillion dollars and counting; this number is the total amount of debt for students enrolled in college who are either graduated or still in school as of 2016 (Berman, 2016, p. 1). This shocking statistic is one of the many reasons why American families are worried about their children furthering their education. Year after year, the price of higher education schooling continues to increase immensely. Average tuition costs and student debt have reached an all-time high. What is the solution to this problem? It is as clear as can be, making higher education free. Students willing to take their learning to the next level should not be punished with extreme debt. Without having to worry about financial status, a college education would become more affordable. Free education would provide limitless possibilities as highly educated citizens make for a smarter society. Due to skyrocketing tuition rates and insurmountable student debt, the only solution is for the price of a college education to be free.

Aristotle was quoted as saying, "Education is the best provision for life's journey."; but if this is the case, why has it become so expensive? In today's society it is widely viewed that a college education is important to be successful, yet it cost so much to get in that many youth give up on their dreams earlier on. Early on in elementary they start telling us about college, slowly but surely. The pressure gets more intense the further students go in school. If one’s school grades aren’t good, and they don’t participate in sports, clubs, or any other extracurricular activities, they might not even get accepted into a college. The youth generation’s entire educational career is a buildup of preparing for college, but if a student doesn’t meet the standards they require, they won’t be accepted. Not only that, but in the case of acceptance, it costs thousands of dollars, making college unattainable for the poor, even with scholarships and financial aid, and making many come out into the adult world after a higher education with colossal debt. America, being the one of the wealthiest countries in the world, should be able to make college not just affordable, but debt free.

Blood and gore, nudity, alcohol use; these are all topics looked for when rating video games, but these are themes found in countless movies and books as well. Even so, absurd themes like these are why video games have flown into the spotlight. Video games have grown extremely fast recently into the huge market they have today. This makes the amount of people that are influenced by video games exponentially large (Quote on growth). Therefore, there are skeptical people out there wondering about the long term and short term effects video games have on their growing fan base. That is why it is imperative that everyone knows the truth of video games and their effects. The truth is violence is not increased in video gamers, many even relieve their stress and angry while playing. Video games do not deter social interaction and the love gamers have for their games connect people in a way, all in its own. Video games also provide real world skills and knowledge even getting the attention of the army because of the concepts in some of the games such as the FPS genre. The bad reputation that is given to video games is untrue , and it needs to be abolished because the benefits of video games actually outweigh the cost, and video gaming needs to be embraced, not shunned.

Small businesses are the shoulders upon which our country was built. They, against all odds, built themselves from the ground up and propelled our country to where it is today. Without them, our economy would not be where it is now. They’ve always had competition, but now is the time that small businesses to be even more worried. Why? Because the competition is coming in strong on the latest front: the internet. As many have heard, the Federal Communications Commission chairman Ajit Pai proposed a plan this year to repeal the principles put into place during the Obama administration. Those principles stated that all content on the internet should be treated equally so that companies can’t pay internet service providers (ISPs) for special treatment and faster speeds. This concept is widely known as net neutrality However, this puts our beloved small business owners in danger. The loss of net neutrality could potentially slow traffic to small business websites, causing them to lose business. It will also endanger small organization and support group owners and allow big business corporations to control a large portion of the internet. Net neutrality rules should continue to be upheld so as to not endanger small businesses.

High school students in our society today feel the pressure that they have to go to college to be successful in life. “In Our society 65.9% of students would rather not go to college after they graduate high school because of the pressure that they get from teachers, parents, and family members” (Norris, 2014, p. 1) This is important because some people think you have to go to college to be successful in life. However, there are alternatives in life that you can choose to do such as trying an apprenticeship or starting your own business.

Many american believe that banning guns will eliminate all gun violence and crime, nut it will not. This belief can put gun owners af risk and can decrease gun ownership due to accusations. People think owning guns is the reason for gun violence and crime. Illegal guns are used more in crime than legal guns. They are easier to purchase than legal guns. The more illegal guns there are, the higher the crime rate is. Illegal guns are used more in crime, because they are easier to obtain. Likewise, the higher illegal gun availability, the higher the gun crime rate.

With roughly 20 million U.S. students expected to attend college this year, and an astronomical 1 trillion dollars in student loan debt, why should we try to send everyone to college? A solution to this problem that people find acceptable is to send everyone to college for ‘free’. However, this is not the answer to our problem, it simply makes it worse. Free college shifts the cost of an education from students to taxpayers. With a large influx of students to public schools, more funding would be needed to provide students with an education. Additionally, sending everyone to college for free would diminish the value of the college education. The higher percentage of people with a given education, the less demand for people with that given education. Finally, not everyone needs to have a college education. There are plenty of jobs that pay exceptionally well that do not require a college education. The fact of the matter is, free college sounds great on paper, but making it a reality could have detrimental costs to our nation.
