This project illustrates the story of "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare. This popular play is the story of two star-crossed lovers who fall in love although they face a family feud. Each of these genres encompass several different characters from the play surrounding the common theme: the power of love has the ability to transcend or overcome boundaries and obstacles. In the case of this story, the obstacles Romeo and Juliet face are the family hatreds. Although they face this barrier, the strength of their love allows them to conquer the hatred.

Fight Song (Rachel Platten)

Ivy (Frank Ocean)

This Town (Niall Horan)

Stay (Rihanna)

The Power of Love (Celine Dion)

Thinkin Bout You (Frank Ocean)

Wake me up Before you Go-go (Wham!)
This playlist reflects Romeo's feelings towards Juliet, including his sadness towards having to leave her, how quickly they fell in love, and the power of their love regardless of the family hatred. A lyric from This Town by Niall Horan is "If the whole world was watching I'd still dance with you" This shows the idea that Romeo will still love Juliet even if his family doesn't support. He loves her regardless and doesn't care what anyone thinks because of that. This is where we can see how strong their love is. A quote that displays this idea is "I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized; Henceforth i will never be Romeo." (2.2.49-51). Romeo expresses that he doesn't care about the family feud and only cares about his love for Juliet.

These movies are all about two main characters who fall in love in which all of them face difficulties, but ultimately are able to overcome these due to their love for each other. Crazy Rich Asians can connect to Romeo and Juliet in many ways, including how the Young family doesn't like Rachel or her family because they are poor and not like them. Similar to Romeo and Juliet's case, they love each other so much, that they don't let the hatred in the two families affect their love for each other. One quote that demonstrates this family feud is, "I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montagues and thee." (1.1.63-64)

The book, "We Were Liars", explores the story of the wealthy Sinclair family, who live on a beautiful private island and a tragic event that alters the family. The whole book, we are trying to find out the "truth" of what really happened. The 2 main characters, Cady and Gat, fall in love even though the Sinclairs don't like Gat because he is "not like them". The kids keep many secrets from their parents in order to keep their relationship normal, just like Romeo and Juliet have to keep secrets from their parents. All of theses characters show a sort of unforbidden love,"Deny they father and refuse thy name! Or, if though wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet." ALthough they face this obstacle, it doesn't stop them from loving each other.

This graffiti is created by Mercutio. The message of his work is to mock Romeo and Juliet, "Oh, Romeo, that she were, O, that she were an open et cetera, thou a pop' rin pear!" In this quote, Mercutio is making fun of Romeo. This is just one of the many obstacles their relationship faces, but as we later learn, it does not effect them. This is due to the power of their love.

One of Romeo's favorite songs, Ivy, by Frank Ocean which displays the story of a relationship in adolescence. The song can connect to Romeo's love life in many ways. The song describes how the relationship came out of nowhere and ended quickly, "The start of nothin' I had no chance to prepare, I couldn't see you comin'". Just like Romeo and Juliet, they met, fell in love, got married, and died in just a few days! Ivy also brings up the idea of a mutual hatred between each other, "Ooh, I could hate you now", and also the idea that the mutual feeling between each other is still good, "We both know that deep down the feeling still deep down is good." This lyric is a perfect example of the family hatred in the play. Romeo is also constantly thinking of Juliet, "If you could see my thoughts you would see our faces." The final lyric is, "I ain't a kid no more, We'll never be those kids again," Just like Romeo and Juliet, their relationship was short-lived and some can argue that it was impulsive and not true love because they were just kids. They will never be kids again nor be able to experience love again because they both died. The common theme brought through this song is that the two people still love each other deep down even though the relationship was short-lived and experienced many obstacles.

This is a collection of Juliet's wedding inspo. She so badly wants to get married to Romeo, but her parents tell her that she is going to be married to Paris. Juliet hates the idea of getting married to Paris and only wants to marry Romeo, "Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it. If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help, Do thou but call my resolution wise." Here she is desperate for a solution to not marry Paris. She even threatens to kill herself, "And with this knife I'll help it presently. God joined my heart and Romeo's, thou our hands." Juliet is being a bit dramatic as she says the only way to solve the issue of marrying Paris is to kill herself. In the end, Romeo and Juliet end up being married and she never gets married to Paris. The power of love is present here due to the fact that Romeo and Juliet were able to overcome this obstacle. They still loved each other no matter what.

This is where things start to go downhill and many obstacles for the newly married couple are formed. Throughout all these circumstances, they still love each other and devote themselves to one another. Before leaving Juliet, Romeo promises to send his love to her every chance he gets, "Farewell!
