         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cause<br>The American public grew frustrated with the lack of government aid that Herbert Hoover was offering to them and called for somebody who would give them the help that they so desperately needed.<br>Effect<br>FDR used “The New Deal” (the promise that he would enact government aid during the depression) to ensure his win in the 1932 election. This fully went against Hoover’s ideology and the 1920s way of business.<br>  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cause<br>The success of the 1920s era laissez-faire government in which the government remained out of business affairs and allowed businesses to control themselves.<br>Effect<br>Herbert Hoover’s response to the Great Depression was that the economy would eventually get back to normal and that it would be up to the American people to climb from the depression on their own with no government aid. He believed that no American would want the government’s help and that they would want to do it for themselves. He also believed that “handouts” would weaken the strength of America.</div>]]></description>
