How does "Much Madness is Divinest Sense" challenge our assumptions about madness?
Basically, the poem is saying that people who go against the grain are usually the most sane, despite being considered crazy.

How do dashes help emphasize certain ideas in "Much Madness is Divinest Sense"?
The dashes make the poem have more meaning. Rather than stopping and ending it with a period, it brings out the word more and what the true meaning of the word is by using dashes.

What is the theme (the central idea) of this poem? Can you state it in a single sentence? Elaborate on your idea.

The central idea of this poem is that the creative people are the most sane. This is shown by the poem saying that if you disagree, then you're crazy, but if you agree with what the majority says, then you're sane in the head.

What heavily connotative words are used? What words have unusual or special meanings? Are any words or phrases repeated? If so, why? Which words do you need to look up?

Some connotative words are discerning and divinest. Assent has a special meaning because it is before "you are sane," implying that you need an approval that you are sane. A looked up word was demur, which means to raise doubts or objections or show reluctance.
