From growing crops, to slaves, to land, etc. The north and the south were different in growing crops because up north it is colder and there are more hill but in the south the tempter is warmer the lands are usually flatter it was a perfect place to grow crops. Next in the south slaves were legal to own but in the north they were not. Most people stayed in the south because they preferred to own slaves and the people that did made a larger profit. The last thing I will talk about  will be the land formations. The land formations mean a lot for wars, crops, etc. For war the north has mountains and the high ground which is good for the north. Another good thing about the north was the industries flourished fulled by natural resources also the north had larger cites and had more troops/people. Abraham Lincoln for the north and Senator Stephen Douglas for the south. The attack on Fort Sumter was the first battle of the civil war. The election was a big part of the war. If Senator Stephen Douglas won the war would have been completely different. Such as if the Union did not have General Lincoln they would have not have the strategies he had made or planed. The start of the war was held at Fort Sumter it was where the Confederates surrounded the Union in the fort and made them stretch thin on supplies. they fought for a long time but the Union fell and held a wight flag up and the Confederates. These were some very important times and people of the war and without them the war would have been completely different and we might not have won a few of these wars.
