I think if the Galveston Hurricane today it wouldn't  be as bad, though still severe it would be better because we have more technology to fend ourselves from hurricanes, and scientist have conducted more research on hurricanes. As said in the text, I do not think people thought this wasn't a dangerous storm at first, but people with special professions will be able to predict the storm beforehand which will help a lot with getting people to safety. At the end of the passage "A Changing World" there is a picture of people gathering around the beach and the passage remarks how they were watching the waves in the ocean. In today's age, people would not do this as scientists would have warned people about how there was an upcoming hurricane. I do think many things would have been destroyed still and people would still get injured, but not as many people may have died on that day and we would have been completely prepared. In the passage "A Raging Sea" It shows pictures of buildings that have been destroyed and toppled over, well, if it had been in modern times that might of not happened due to the fact we have protection against floods and large storms nowadays. It was also affected because of where it was and the fact that a well-known reporter had said Galveston wouldn't have been hit, and it would be strange if it had. So, nobody had been prepared. Especially due to the fact Galveston was a port, and boats can't sail without water, so it was by an ocean and a beach. The hurricane would have not been as bad but it the severity level was increased because of it's location. The floods would of not been as bad as it was in the day, because water from nearby locations conjoined with the current flood rain from the hurricane and the water level raised extremely because of the rain.

Another big change is that if the Galveston Hurricane hit us today, not as much debris would cause so much calamity because buildings in the modern times have been built with much more structure, support, and tougher materials. This improvement would now have the ability to save a lot of lives. Yet another change is that almost everybody nowadays have some sort of vehicle. Also, about everywhere has well paved roads. This would allow many more families to evacuate their town, or city. This would be a great improvement because many people wouldn't be able to get trapped in their streets or homes. The last good thing that would happen today is that if it hit today, many people would be covered by insurance and a lot of families would not be as devastated. This would mean that many people would be broke after the effects of the hurricane. Now people now that if there is a hurricane coming you can build a safe structure or go inside your basement. If worst comes to worst than you will have to find a ditch outside and get as low as possible.They could make barriers so it would not flood a lot of Galveston so the bay or the ocean wouldn't make water go through.
