Ships were the transportation used by many people around the world before 1960. Different people from different parts of the world wanted to come to Singapore to reside and find jobs, and start a family here. Therefore, they travelled here by ships. Ships before 1960 were always packed like catte and sanitary conditions were poor, and most people would fall sick by the end of their voyage to travel to Singapore. Despite all these, people still wanted to immigrate to Singapore. From this, I can infer that many people thought that Singapore was a very good environment to reside in.
...................................................................
The second transport that was popular in the 1960s was the rickshaw. It was also the public transThport during that time. Rickshaws were human-powered vehicles by which a runner has to draw a two-wheeled cart which allows to seat more than one person. The runner has to cycle the rickshaw in order to power the rickshaw in order to move around

Illegal Hawking was a major problem during the 1950's to the 1960's.People were selling food and sundry items without a legal license. From this source,it suggests to me that the education in Singapore was poor and had no jobs to earn money or that applying for a legal license was really troublesome, discouraging many people to apply for them.

Fashion was a luxury to most of the population ,who were still dressed in traditional costumes in the 1950s, there were many racial riots and conflicts ,people wanted to express their identity with regards to heir ethnicity by wearing traditional costumes so people from other races would not mistake them for the race they had riots with.Since they had racial riots , each race would be very sensitive to each other and if they wore clothings of other ethnics or cultures, people might misunderstand them for 'supporting ' another race and another riot would start. It might have also been possible that some of them felt that their race was disregarded so they wanted to wear their traditional costumes to show that they were proud of their own race.

................................................................................................................................

Women in the 1930s preferred wearing cheongsam and most women wearing cheongsam were wealthy. Cheongsam became so popular that even the pernakan women started to wear the cheongsam rather than the nonya Kebaya for formal occasions and family portraits.Students also wore cheongsam for graduation photos and so .From these resources, i can infer that cheongsam was very popular within women and people of other races also knew how to appreciate how the cheongsam looked. I can also infer that Fashion was very important as it could be seen as a wealth status, used to mark their education status, modernity and association with the chinese female elite in other countries. Not only that, i can also infer that since it was well loved by women, many shops would have sold cheongsam which would have contributed to the popularity of cheongsam in Singapore
