Biology concepts I find are much easier to understand when they are able to be demonstrated. This is why this website is super cool as it is able to demonstrate concepts like photosynthesis, as a simulator. This is especially useful for teachers when practicals may not be able to take place. In addition to the simulation the website also provides detailed theories, procedures, animations, videos and links to other resources as well. This tool would be able to be used as a 'we do' activity or even a 'you do' independent tool for the students.

The opportunity this would give students to learn first-hand would make learning concepts that are typically displayed in a diagram much more engaging. I really believe this would help visual students understand concepts a lot easier. However, I do question how it would be added into school funding, as I personally would never bring in my own personal technologies for students to use.

I think it would be a great way for students to express their creativity when it comes to their thoughts, and classwork. It is great that it can also be used as a tool to connect with families and possibility the community to. My only thoughts are what the cyber safety risks/concerns would be regarding a class blog? Also, I think this would be a great tool for students to use for chapter summaries for book analysis assignments, also as a great place to store all of their work.

Whereas the middle level still has the moon phase names, but not the clues. This level would be a great basis for getting an idea of the classes understanding on the content. And lastly, the high level has blank label boxes and no list of vocabulary at the bottom. This version would be great for extension students but also as a revision tool for later on in the term.

'Transformational Teaching: Theoretical Underpinnings, Basic Principles, and Core Methods' written by Slavich & Zimbardo (2013) demonstrates the comprehensive framework of student learning and personal growth through innovative teaching strategies. The article encourages educators to create:

Active and collaborative learning

Experimental Learning

Student-centred learning

Problem-based learning.

These instructional methods are transformed to create a cohesive approach that fosters dynamic relationships between the students, teachers, and the subject content. The significance of this approach is that it fosters an environment of personalised feedback, guidance, and authentic lessons that extend beyond the classroom. Overall, this form of pedagogy aims to maximise the students personal and intellectual development.

After exploring this framework, I decided to incorporate it into my mini unit to support the high-end pedagogy principles required. It encouraged me to use the ICT resources such as Canva and Padlet to facilitate student-centred and collaborative learning experiences. Additionally, it also aligns with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST), specifically 6.2 and 7.4.

This is because it:

Engages in professional learning to improve my practices, in my emphasis to continuously reflect and adapt to various teaching strategies (Standard 6.2).

Represents my engagement with professional teaching networks and broader communities, whilst advocating for collaborative learning environments that go past the traditional classroom setting (Standard 7.4).

Altogether I am able to take insight from this framework to create a learning environment that not only teaches scientific knowledge but fosters critical thinking and collaboration.
