I would like to acknowledge that I am an uninvited guest on this land, the unceded and traditional territory of the musqueam, Squamish and Tseil-Waututh peoples. I am a settler here because of the privilege held by my grandparents who are represented through my grandmothers bell, which shows that I am lucky enough to live with stability in my home due to my race/citizenship and class. I will work everyday to recognize how my privilege impacts where I am today and recognize that others come with different experiences and knowledge, and use this understanding to work towards decolonizing spaces in my community and workplace. My commitment is to not teach about indigenous peoples as only victims, but celebrate their rich traditional knowledge and cultures.

I am an uninvited guest and settler on these unceded lands of the Musqueam, Kwantlen and Tsawwassen First Nations. It is my responsibility to learn about how the harms of the construction of Canada (one of them being immigration policies) have dispossessed and oppressed Indigenous peoples who have stewarded this land since time immemorial. As a Chinese Canadian settler, I am committed to unlearning, and acknowledge that my family’s privileges come at a cost for Indigenous peoples today.
