bai chua - vy

In many countries, new laws have been introduced to limit the number of working hours employers can demand from employees. This essay will first explain the reasons behind these policies, and then argue that they should be viewed as a positive trend for both individuals and society.

One main reason for limiting working hours is to safeguard employees’ health and improve their work-life balance. If workers spend excessive hours at work, they are prone to fatigue, stress, and even serious health problems such as heart-related diseases. By setting a maximum number of working hours, governments can protect employees from overwork, which in turn reduces pressure on national healthcare systems. At the same time, having more free time allows employees to rest, spend time with family, and pursue personal interests. This makes them happier, more motivated, and ultimately more productive. For example, in Japan, strict rules on overtime were introduced after several tragic cases of karoshi who died from overwork. This shows how limiting working hours can prevent severe health issues while also encouraging a healthier, more efficient workforce.

I believe that introducing these policies is a positive development. On the individual level, it gives people a better quality of life and helps them stay healthy for longer. On the societal level, it ensures a more productive workforce and lowers healthcare costs. Even though some employers worry about reduced work output, the long-term benefits clearly outweigh these concerns.

In conclusion, laws that limit working hours are a constructive step forward. They not only protect employees’ health and happiness but also contribute to sustainable growth in society. In my opinion, this is undoubtedly a positive trend that more countries should adopt.
