During the time, phones were big and not very convenient. They had tiny screens, and half of the phone itself was a keyboard. In 2007, Steve Jobs invented the iPhone. It solved basically every single problem people had with their old phones. It had a bigger screen that was able to be used with your fingers, it was lighter and thinner. People were shocked when they saw it with their own eyes. Most smartphones after that were improved with bigger and better batteries, higher quality screen, etc. It was the start of a new era for smartphones.

The iPhone introduced a touch screen which allowed people to navigate the device with their fingers. Next, it was significantly lighter and practical than lots of other phones at the time. Furthermore, it introduced the app store which allowed people to download 3rd party applications onto the device, it can also play music, send emails, and browse the internet.

Other phones at the time couldn’t take photos but the iPhone was one of the first phones to take photos. Next, The iPhone was designed differently which inspired other companies to make smartphones based on the iPhone. Furthermore, Apple also came out with Siri a couple of years later which was a virtual assistant in the iPhone which was also found in other phones as the years went on. Lastly, The iPhone X was the first phone to introduce face recognition to access passwords, unlock the phone, and much more.

Phones during the time were very big, they weren't that practical either. People were using phonebooks to make calls which can take time to look up someone's phone number. But the iPhone can have all contacts saved onto the device so there is no need for a phonebook anymore. Phones at the time also didn’t have cameras on them. Smartphones during the time didn’t have an app store either. So they were stuck with the default apps the phone came with. The iPhone was the first to come up with a solution for all of these problems.

The iPhone that we know today wasn't always the same. The original iPhone never had access to 3rd party apps, you had to wait for the iPhone 3g to come out. There was also one backround and that was it, just plain black. Next, the cut/copy/paste tool took three years after the original release of the iPhone 2g to be added. Lastly, it took 5 years after the release of the iPhone 2g to have a phone that didn't require a computer to be set up.
