A facial expression in ASL would be eyebrows going up or down. It shows to the person you are talking to your emotions or feeling. This could also be used as a yes/no question. If you do not use facial expressions to the person you are communicating with, it will be hard to understand you. If you just have a straight face through the whole conversation, it might just be a really serious conversation. If you are feeling happy or sad show your emotion with your eyebrows, your face, your body.. something that shows to him/her that you aren't very serious.

Facial Expressions are ways to show your expressions when signing because ASL a visual language. When you are speaking English and talking you can change your tone of your voice to show if your mad, upset, happy etc. But on the other hand when you are using ASL to talk with someone you don't use your voice to show your expression so you have to use your Facial Expressions. If your mad make a mad face, if your happy you should have on a happy face. They are also important because they have to be correct....if you are trying to show your sad but you have a happy expression you could confuse someone with your expression. These are reasons as to why Facial Expressions are so important in ASL.

If you were happy you would have a smile Facial expressions are also used to show what kind of question you are asking. Say you are signing a YES/NO question, your eyebrows would be up. If you were signing a WH question your eyebrows would be down.

Facial expressions are important in signing because it shows emotion in what the person is trying to say. For example, if I am signing "happy" then I would make a happy face because if I just had a regular face then you would not really know the difference between the signs I am signing. This works with other feeling signs.

Facial expressions are important because they help you to express your emotions. When people speak, they have a certain "tone of voice" to portray their mood. But you cannot do that when you sign, so you use facial expressions as your "Tone of voice". And if you don't have facial expressions as you're speaking/signing, then your conversation could be misleading to the other person you are talking/signing to.
