Theme #1 Love

The theme of love is a prevalent one throughout the story of the scarlet letter. It occurs predominantly between Hester and Dimmesdale in the story. Their ability to go through so much but then in the end come together like they did in the forest interview. Where there undying unbreakable love shines through. A story of true love than a story of simply sinful love as portrayed mostly in the story.

Theme#2 Sin

The most recognizable theme throughout the story is undeniably sin. Through committing the crime of adultery Hester Prynne is seen as the "bad guy" throughout the remainder of the story. She is forced to pay for her actions whether it was the standing on the scaffold for three hours or being forced to wear the scarlet letter through the whole story, the idea of her sinning and sin as a whole is always present.

Symbolism: Pearl

While yes, she is a character in the story, pearl is more important than that overall. She is a symbol and a reminder to Hester of the sin she has committed, she is a living reminder of her adultery. As well as being a reminder to Hester's infidelity.

Symbolism: Rose bush

While not having a clear meaning like many other symbols in the book, the rosebush has some that are very important to the story. One particularly is the triumph of nature over man made contrivances. But another substantial one could be the symbol of growth or blossoming of hester throughout the story. A hint of foreshadowing you could say.

They landed in Salem which they quickly learned they could not stay, so after the death of many they decided to move once again. This time moving to what they called "Boston" which is still there to this day and goes by the same name. They did much better here thanks to the natives that taught them valuable skills. They went onto add a myriad of more colonists, adding nearly 40,000 people with ch turned to be to much. As a result of this they had crowding issues and moved outwards and farming picked up as a result. Helping the economy tremendously along with feeding the new population.
