         <title>Guest Mentor 1: Tabatha Rospory</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>After watching the video from Tabatha Rospory, I learned about her personal definition of assessment, her go to assessments, and many more things. One of the things that stuck with me is her personal definition of assessment which was where students are academically and social-emotionally. Tabatha's go to assessments are the dial 4 assessments which are used for preschoolers and it is a questionnaire where the students family gives their perspective on their child's academic level (Aeps). Tabatha also mentioned that it is important to look at each students skills to better help them.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Guest mentor 2- Spencer Brown</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><br>The second guest mentor was Spencer Brown. Spencer Brown defined assessment as a procedure for making inferences based on observation. The inferences made are about the child's learning. Because assessment can be made based on observation, the validity of the results are questionable. There are just interpretations that the assessor makes.&nbsp;<br>Spencer also mentioned using white boards to work "smarter not harder" because it gives all students the opportunity to give their response and it is also a great engagement strategy. I can definitely agree with this because as a teacher assistant, I have noticed that having these manipulatives have helped students interact with the lesson.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><br>The third mentor was Natasha Roseberry. Natasha gave her personal definition of assessment which was getting to know&nbsp; what the students know and how to use it the best way possible. This will help students get independence if they are given strategies to use their skills to find information or learn a concept.&nbsp;<br>Roseberry also mentioned using sticky notes as exit tickets because they are quick and easy. The same is true of white boards and dry erase markers. Some of the advice she gave is to make a connection with students by giving them nicknames and going the "extra" mile for them just to let them know they are cared for. For example, there was a student that she bought a book for because she knew the student was a fan of the book. Then, Roseberry also went to one of her students football games to show support. I LOVED this about Roseberry and I thought it was very meaningful and it is definitely something I plan on doing with my future students.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Guest mentor 4 - Christina Williams</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Christina Williams is the fourth mentor. She defined assessment as showing what one knows. The results of the assessment determine how ready a student is to learn a new concept. However, Williams mentioned that the overall goal is for each one of her students to have growth in their learning. One of her favorite parts of teaching is having small group because she gets to have one on one time with her students whether its those who struggle more and need further instruction or those who are a bit more advanced academically and need more of a "push" or challenge. One piece of advice Williams mentioned is that it is important to not "walk alone" by that, she meant that it is important to ask questions and advice to become a better teacher everyday.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><br><br>Brandi England is the fifth mentor. Brandi's definition of assessment is informal. Brandi mentions=ed that it is mainly peer observation and with a standardized test, they are looking for skills for an IEP.&nbsp;A reading assessment that Brandi uses for her Sped students is called a FMP which is a benchmark assessment that determines the types of errors that students make. Lastly, Brandi mentioned that in order to work "smarter not harder" is to simply learn the hard work first and then one will get used to things and know the drill which will alleviate the amount of stress.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Kelly Tines is the sixth mentor. Kelly defined assessment as assessing whether a goal from an objective has been met whether is is through summative or formative assessments.<br>Kelly also mentioned that her go to grading process is mainly using rubrics to determine if a goal is met. She also mentioned that it is a way to work smarter not harder since there are no "guessing games" on rubrics and the expectations are already established. She also mentioned that as a new teacher, it is extrememly important to have procedures and routines addressed from day one so that students establish those habits.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Marsha Reeves has been a kindergarten teacher for 27 years and defines assessment as what children know and what they are ready to learn next. Marsha mentions that hands on projects are ideal for kindergartners because their attention span only lasts about 2-3 minutes and exercising their motor skills is helpful. I also think it was funny but true when Marsha mentioned that it is important to be extra nice to the secretary and custodian because they "run" the school and they'll be nice back.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>TJ Ulmer is the director of blended learning for Olathe. One of the ways he works smarter not harder is by not stressing. Although there are a lot of things thrown at one as a teacher, TJ thinks it is important to grasp understanding of on strategy first and then make a routine out of it. This was helpful because it alleviated stress I had as a pre-service teacher.&nbsp;It gave me the idea of "one day at a time"<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Deena Steen is the ninth mentor. One of the things that stuck with me about Deena is that she mentioned one on one time with her students. She mentioned that small group is important because she gets to work with those who need extra help but she also gets to work with those who are higher academically and she is able to support them. Often times, it could be difficult to give those "higher" students their needed attention because one tends to focus heavily on helping lower students. With small groups, a teacher gets one on one time with all students which is definitely helpful. One of the things that meant so much to me watching this video is listening the Deena's story about how one of her students who has dyslexia explained his situation to his classmates and it helped the classmates be patient and considerate of his situation. This meant so much to me because it showed the importance of how being considerate of one another can help students respect each other.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><br>Andy Heinicke was the tenth mentor. There are two important things that Andy Heinicke said that really helped me. Andy mentioned that it is important for us as teachers to respect our students to get that respect reciprocated. His exact words were "kids are people too, they deserve respect, and respect is earned both ways." I could not agree more! I feel like oftentimes, people can get on their high horse and forget that we are ALL human and we are all worthy. Although we as teachers are leaders, students need respect because with it, they will feel valued enough to put effort into their learning. Lastly, Andy mentioned the importance of teaching, "this is lasting work, you are investing in humanity, you are investing in our future." I also agreed with this because teachers truly do help students get started on their future.<br><br></div>]]></description>
