Charlie Palmer- The author is trying to show the pure and hardheaded discrimination against Jewish people that many Germans had back then. I the text when the German kid had broke the window and had admitted to doing it multiple times, they still tried to blame it on the Jewish kid, for example, on page 2, “Away with you! You don’t think you have to protect this rotten Jew boy because your living in the same house, do you? Showing how even though the German boy tried to explain he accidentally broke the window she still tried to blame the Jewish person for something he didn’t do, and for an intention he didn’t have of stealing, showing pure hatred and discrimination towards Jewish people.

In this scenario the author is trying to show how even though the Jewish boy didn’t throw the ball and the other boy (non Jewish) did, and the non Jewish boy takes credit for his accident, the police and onlookers still only believe that the Jewish boy did it. The author is showing discrimination To Jews and how it looked.

The author showed this by writing a story about how a German kid broke a shop window, but the lady who ran the shop automatically assumed it was the Jewish kid who broke the window. The German kid even admitted that he broke the window but the policeman and the shopkeeper both believed it was the Jewish kid. This shows how Germans discriminated Jews.

The lady in the story didn’t even see the Jewish boy hit the window but automatically assumed it was him and that he was trying to break in and rob her;even after his non Jewish friend admitted it was him. After many tries no one wanted to believe the boy, because they strongly thought he was just standing up for him and trying to protect him, even though it really wasn’t the Jewish boy. People can be really fast to judge and discriminate others and think they’re better just because of race, size, culture, or anything else.

I feel like the author is trying to show or teach that when people stand up for each other, regardless of the race, gender, age, etc. most likely, there will be a positive impact on that situation. Like with the two boys in the story. Instead of the narrator being a bystander, staying back and watching his friend getting yelled at by the woman and taken away by the officer, he decided to step in and take the blame. And eventually, when the story got to Friedrich’s father, the narrator told the truth and Friedrich got released. All because the narrator said something and stood up for his friend. Also, the author is trying to show how Jewish people were treated back then. Regardless of the situation and the truth told by the narrator, the woman and the officer immediately blamed Friedrich, who was Jewish. The woman yelled and scolded him for something he didn’t do, but it was all because he was Jewish.

It is shown as the lady constantly keeps blames the Jewish boy even after the other one keeps telling her it was his fault. We can see this because in the story the woman blames the Jewish boy for breaking the window and even after the other boy keeps claiming that it was him who broke the window the lady still keeps accusing the Jewish boy that it was his wrongdoing. This goes to show that the author was trying to send this iMessage about how negative opinions and negative messages can be taken so seriously too. That’s some bull turned a blind eye to incidence done by their own kind and go out of your way to blame someone such as the Jews. With something like this the author truly does show us how powerful words can be sometimes.

He shows this in the story by telling you that a boy breaks a window on accident and a woman falsely accuses the Jewish kid of breaking it. The non Jewish boy repeatedly tells the woman that the he did it, not the Jewish boy. Also in the story the police are involved and even when the boy who isn’t Jewish tells the officer that he broke the window, they still believe that the Jewish boy did it. The German boy said he did it but the policeman didn’t believe him.

This is really horrible because as humans no one should be treated that way ever. The author showed how much the Jews were discriminated against during this time.

Annabelle Otto- I think the author is trying to tell us that Jews were treated unfairly even if they did nothing wrong. People just wanted Jews to be in the wrong they didn’t care if they didn’t do anything. In the text it shows us an example of this when it says the boy kept telling the store owner it was not the Jewish boy it was him but they didn’t care they wanted to punish the Jewish boy.

The author wants us to see and realize how badly Jewish people were treated. In the story, a
non-Jewish person breaks a window with a ball and a woman blames the Jew for it. The non-Jew boy admits that he broke the window and that it wasn’t the other boy’s fault. The woman still doesn’t doesn’t believe it and continues to call the boy greedy and deceitful. This shows how badly Jews were treated back then and why we should make sure this never happens again.

The author wants to show us how Jewish people were discriminated to a point that they will blame acts on them even if they aren’t guilty and have a whiteness too. It is shown as the lady constantly keeps blames the Jewish boy even after the other one keeps telling her it was his fault. This really does show how much of a bad rep. a certain group of people can get when an opinion is thrown out there. Because sometimes those opinions spread like wildfire and have such a huge and blinding impact on people.
