The Battle of Kings Mountain took place on October 7th 1780, and was considered a turning pint in the war. The colonists attacked the British by surprise. The British launched a desperate counter attack and were demolished. In only one hour and five minutes, the American totally decimated Ferguson's American Tories (Loyalists, Royalists), with every last man of them either dead or taken prisoner, and the Colonel himself left dead on the battlefield.

The American troops met up with more American troops around Burke County. These extra troops helped the colonists surround the British.
After being stopped by the rain for two days Cornwallis noticed that there was a leveled clearing on the mountain. He then wrote to another general in the hope that they would send more troops because he was convinced he could not be pushed off the mountain. Did not receive troops, lost the value.

Ferguson arrived in North Carolina in early September 1780 to recruit troops for the Loyalist militia and protect the flank of Lord Cornwallis's main force. Ferguson issued a challenge to the rebel militias to lay down their arms. The rebels were clearly going to attack. Receiving intelligence on the oncoming attack, Ferguson decided to retreat to the safety of Lord Cornwallis' army. When the patriots attacked, the British tried to break their lines, it did not work, and Ferguson and co were killed.
