Ideas of fetishization of the working class, appropriation and authenticity are all worth investigating, but they need to be organised into a coherent argument. 


Research: The bibliography is very limited, but includes some academic sources. More research is needed, particularly academic texts, in order to ground the discussion in theory. 


Analysis: There are elements of analysis and dynamic engagement with the topic, but more in-depth reflection is needed in relation to concepts such as fetishization, appropriation and authenticity. Some pages seem to be missing, which made following the discussion more difficult. 


Communication: Ideas need to be organised more rigorously to construct a clearer and more coherent argument. I suggest looking again at the presentations on how to write analytically (in the materials for week 3 on the AULA page) in order to construct coherent paragraphs that explore one idea each. Proofreading is advised, paying attention to sentence structure.


Skills: All the elements of the Formative assignment are included, although some pages were missing. The Progress Map shows engagement with the topic. It would be good to see images used to support the discussion.

“This is a very interesting proposal for a Dissertation on the subject of gentrification, and how the aesthetic of street culture (or the working classes) contributes to it, and in turn effects those who created it.
Research This Proposal shows an awareness for quality research; the Bibliography is short, but all sources are academically sound; this is good! Remember to think broadly about research, and explore other avenues which may not be directly linked to the topic. For example, you may look at some consumer theories (why do we buy this stuff?) or questions of identity (the idea of identifying with a particular place). You mention authenticity in your Review; this is a word often spoken with regards to Subcultures; I know that Ross Haenfler talks about it in his book Subcultures; The Basics. It’s a very interesting word to unpick, and so appropriate here. Analysis More research will generate more analysis; but there is clearly an awareness of the various points of view and areas of debate here. Examples are well chosen and appropriate. It’s a shame you can’t do a series of photographs but actually I think there’s enough to write about here, and a photo series may just complicate what it is you want to say.
Communication This is a well written proposal and it’s great that it’s so personally motivated. I would suggest re-wording the lead question slightly; it comes across as quite complex and not easy to understand! This may be best left to near the end of the research, however, when you know exactly what it is you are writing about. Organisation & Planning The Progress Map is good in terms of a collection of reseach and reflection. It would be good to see more planning in here; how will you fit this in around other commitments?
ACTION PLAN - Consider re-wording the question so that it is concise and easy to understand - Broaden your research so that you’re looking at other things, as suggested above.
