How do you fill out all of the sections of the SLD paperwork when a parent asks for testing and we have no MTSS data at school? This is student who the teachers have not had a concern about.

I work with an EC teacher who is adamant about exiting students from SLD (usually transfer IEPs) when she can't verify the student received interventions. She claims without that information they absolutely cannot have an IEP for SLD. Some of these students have been in EC since pre-k.

Tutoring vs SDI

Determining and explaining in a meeting that a child may need some tutoring, but not necessarily need SDI through an IEP. Especially when a private evaluation shows discrepancies between cognitive ability and academic ability. Also, some private psychologist will diagnose a learning disability recommending an IEP. It becomes sticky to explain that we cannot only look at one piece of data, but rather multiple pieces of data to make that determination.
