Intolerable Acts

The Intolerable Acts or the Coercive Acts was founded in 1774. The Intolerable acts were five laws passed by Parliament as a punishment for colonists defying them. These Laws included: the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, the Quartering Act and the Quebec Act.

The Boston Tea Party (MG)

Following the Tea act. The Boston Tea Party took place on the Boston Harbor They poured 342 chests of East India Company tea into the Boston Harbor. This was an act of protest for the tax on tea. The tea act gave the company East India tea special rights to ship, and transport their items to the other colonies. Many of the colonies canceled their orders protesting their company. The governor of Massachusetts bay Colony continued to allow the ta to arrive. Therefore many American patriots disguised as Mohawk Indians stormed the ships full of tea on the night of December 16,1773 and flipped all of the tea overboard.(Britannica, The Editors of Encyclopaedia)

The Stamp Act

The Stamp Act was a tax made in 1765 by the British in the colonies that made the colonists pay a tax on multiple items including: colonial commercial and legal papers, newspapers, pamphlets, cards, almanacs, and dice.

The Tea Act (MG)

The British Government started The Tea Act for the colonies on May 10, 1773 to help the East India company in selling tea. Other companies in Boston would resell it for more so they could make a profit. The British government set this act to cut those people out and make it so that only the company could transport the tea in. As you could assume, people got very mad about this, and how the tea act was only benefiting the East India company and no one else. This soon after led to The Boston tea party. The Revolutionary War (EA)

April 19, 1775 was the beginning of the revolutionary war. A battle for the sole purpose of the colonies gaining independence from Britain. From 1775 to early 1778 the war was strictly between the colonies and Great britain. Then Spain in 1778 and France in 1779 united together with the colonies against Britain, officially making it an international War. The war commenced starting with an altercation resulting in gunshots at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. The war lasted for over a decade. Ultimately resulting with a win for the colonies after signing the Treaty of Paris. The 13 colonies, now known today as America. (Britannica, The Editors of Encyclopedia)

The Boston Massacre (MG)

On March 5, 1770 there was a fight between British troops and a crazy crowd in Boston Massachusetts in front of the Customs House. The mod was egging the soldiers on and telling them to shoot. Shots were fired although neither side knew who had shot first. As you may assume both sides thought the opposing side had done it. Preson, who had led the soldiers, had seven of his men under arrest. There were trials following this to see if the British soldiers would be found guilty. Townshend Acts

From June 15–July 2, 1767 parliament passed the Townshend Acts in the colonies, named after the sponsor Charles Townshend.This new act taxed imported goods such as glass,lead, paper, paint, and tea.

Declaratory Act

In 1766 the Declaratory Act was passed the same day as the Stamp Act was repealed. This law stated that Parliament could control the colonies by governing and taxing the colonists however they wanted.

The Treaty of Paris (EA)

September 3, 1783, the day America gained their independence from Great Britain. Representatives of the King from Britain and representatives of America met in Paris to discuss, while representatives from Spain and France were also in attendance to discuss and sign their own treaties. Many countries benefited from that meeting and had their own treaties signed. For Instance, The treaty of Versaille. As regards to the Treaty of Paris, By signing the treaty, Great Britain granted America surprising unselfish extremities, such as the Mississippi River. April 19, 1775, General Thomas Gage ordered 700 British soldiers en route to Concord, Lexington Massachusetts. While 70-80 Minute men nearby journeyed there as well. A first initial disagreement with the American Provinces and the British regulars occurred. It is up for debate to this day who fired the first gunshot. This quarrel would be known as what sparked the start of the American Revolution.

Women in the involvement of the Revolution(MG, EA)

Women in the Revolution had few jobs to perform and complete on their day to day basis. Many women would fulfill duties at home such as cooking, nursing others, or simply just caring to anyone who may need. Other women were out boycotting British goods. A women by the name of Deborah Simpson disguised as a man to fight in the war. Many women picked up jobs that were made for a man, and not getting paid anything to do so. Olive Branch Petition

The Olive Branch Petition was a peace offering sent from the colonists to King George the lll in 1776. This was the colonists last attempt at avoiding war going back to peace. Ultimately the king rejected the petition leading to the colonists fight for independence.
